You guys seem very well travelled and know the nightlife scene pretty well so I thought I'd ask for some advice here. I know rio has probably been done dozens of times but clubs seem to appear and disappear pretty quickly in brazil.

So far I've been to Sao paolo, Salvador, Manaus, and a few other cities and I'm loving the country. Rio is our final destination, and we are here for 3 weeks. Our portuguese is very poor, so communicating with non English speakers has been a bit tough. Luckily we made some awesome friends in SP who could speak English, and took us to great nightclubs, restaurants, and showed us around the city.

We are staying in Flamengo in a nice hotel, and I was hoping a few of you guys would know the best areas for nightlife around the city, particularly lapa and near by, as well as obviously copa, Leblon, ipanema, etc.

We are keen to go out any night of the week, so if there is a particular area that is good depending on the night that would be helpful.

I'd be happy to keep you guys posted on what we get up to and how our nights are. Thanks alot,

Also http://www.Ipanema.com has alot of Nightlife spots listed.

Get up with people on http://www.CouchSurfing.org from Rio as they will have local knowledge and are happy to hangout and show travelers around.

On a night when you have nothing to do go get cheap beers and food at the BalconyBar right on the strip in Copa. These are working girls but can easily be shored and they speak decent english.

Also hit up bars during the day and befriend some young bartenders as they will hook you up with girls/parties and nightlife tips!

Thanks alot mate, I'm gonna do a bit of research tonight and maybe go to a local bar, and hopefully I can have a night out tomorrow. I'll be sure to check out that bar you mentioned.

On a side note, I just paid 6.5 real for a litre of 'Natasha vodka'. Anyone tried it?

Haha! Yes, as a matter of fact, I had a bottle of Natasha vodka, too! It was flavored vodka. Limao flavored.

I remember it being cheap, but not as cheap as you got it! You got a good deal at R6.50 !!

But it is pretty harsh, and you will want to have a mixer with it

I'd go to that bar after you went out to a "normal" venue first. But as you may know getting a SNL with a reg chick is hard w/o speaking Portuguese and knowing ppl. The BalconyBar was my plan B that I had to use quite abit during my week in Rio lol Out of my 3 bangs in Rio 2 came from there.... Just tell them that you are there to have fun and drink and dont have money to spend on sex and they will offer to go home with you for free after you put in alil work.

Another thing I forgot to tell you. You gotta go hit up a Baile Funk Party. Girls dressed in nothing shaking their asses. Id also imagine them to be easier to fuck then the richer chicks. I dont know if their is Baile Funk parties outside of favelas though. But there is a few companies that offer to take foreigners to them. There is a dude from Rochina named Zezinho that can get u into one of theses parties.

Hey thanks for all the advice, I've had some of that vodka (tastes fine with a mixer) and some beers and we are going to this nice bar. I'll catch you guys tomorrow.
