Dental care is good (and free for children) here in the UK.

But - unlike in America - they are just dentists. And not cosmetic dentists. So - the emphasis is on the health of the teeth - and not how good the look or how white they are.

Shame.

I am OCD about my teeth (brush 5-6 times a day, floss and lots of mouthwash - and I don't drink tea or coffee). And they look no better than average. The colour they are is genetic. And for alot of people that means white/yellow. Unless that shit is sorted out with tooth whitening products.

As for the gap issue, gaps in teeth, especially the two front teeth bother me A LOT. I had a gap in my front teeth and got braces at a fairly late age. I had them in my early-mid 20s.

5-6 times a day is actually a little OCD for real. Just get some Dentyne Ice for after you eat. You might be damaging your teeth by brushing so frequently.

Since people pay out of pocket, the market is competitive and people get much better care and easier access. The providers have an incentive to give better service, better results and new treatments; that incentive is destroyed by socialized medicine

Was sitting at a bar munching on pizza here in Dallas. Girl moves to the seat across from me. Appears to be an 8-8.5. I open with "snazzy outfit there eh?" Appears flattered, answers me..then grill was meh. She was from South Texas, which has some hot Latinas as was she but the teeth were cigarette ridden without ever experiencing braces. I think dentistry is pretty BS as well actually. Most people I know could go a whole lifetime without seeing the dentist and it wouldn't make any difference. Myself - and my brothers - included.

Yep, I never saw a dentist until I was 19 years old and have never had a cavity. I've only been a few times since (though I do want to go in for a clearning more regularly).. Maybe just lucky though - wisdom teeth didn't need pulling either.
