Wear what you feel comfortable in, the suit and blazer is not my thing and makes me look older. I am I my 40s and not trying to look my age.
I have suits but i don't wear them too often.
My wallet does not match my look, so I tone it down.
In a city like NYC there are some real ballers living there, if you are fronting you will be called out quickly.

Steve Harvey isn't famous because of suits. Actually, his style likely held him back.

Bernie Mac had a similar start, yet was actually much more famous than Steve at the time of his death. Steve got a TV show first, yet Bernie's was on the bigger network and had more mainstream success. He was also in bigger movies with bigger roles. Even Cedric the Entertainer was having more success than Steve at a point, despite one of his first roles being a supporting spot on The Steve Harvey Show.

The problem is Steve's personal style is/was very polarizing. His demeanor and comedy is actually very accessible, as evidenced by his success. But notice that he's toned down the way he dresses now that's he's gotten more mainstream success pandering to hamsters.

I don't say this to demean Steve at all, I was a big fan of his show. Also, many people don't know he actually lived out of his car for a few years when he was getting his start. Can't knock his hustle but his suits are a good example of how your style can definitely alienate you from certain demographics.

A suit and a Rolex do not a badass make.

Do what pleases you, be it easy or difficult, expectable or eccentric. To me, that is the mark of an impressive man.

I don't think the way you dress should necessarily be based on the desires of women you want to approach. Dress for the venue, the crowd, and your personal tastes. As for women, I'm more a fan of being genuine and trusting that doing so will give you a smoothness that contrived others cannot achieve. Women are attracted to this more than to clothes or money, in my experience.

If your goodlooking in the girls eyes it doesn't matter wtf you dress like, but if less in the looks dept clothes do carry more weight. However, if your going to redneck/sportsbar/local pub type places..most that matters is burping, having a beer belly, and most important being a part of the in crowd pack.Different strokes for different folks.
That being said you should NOT be sporting a Rolex or any really expensive watch unless you actually got the wealth to back it up...otherwise women think its obnoxious. Remember rich people ..buying these trinkets are barely flinching so its ok.But for Joe smoe who lives in his moms basement and drives a beat up car..it is a joke.You should still wear a nice suit that fits or is tailored because that is how clothes should be worn.
In 3RD world places (FSU) different rules apply. You are expected to spend every penny on some senseless brand name item for the motivation of having nothing saved and having to steal cabbage to buy more senseless items lol.

Interesting question that I address in my book The Alpha Playboy in the chapter called Alpha At Any Age.

I think the key here is to remember that Suited Up Game can work at any age, however, I recommend being the best of your age group and peers.

For example, when I was in college, I rocked Diesel Jeans, a vintage tee, cowboy boots and leather cuffs plus a vintage necklace.

This was my uniform more or less and it helped me destroy the bar and college club scene. It worked for me and I didn't get into Suited Up Game until mid to late 20's when the suit was congruent with my age.

I attended college when the Abercrombie scene was huge and for that time, that look and style was the Top Dog of college clothes. Rocking it the best made me the 'alpha' of my peers and the local party scene, thus it was successful.

The key here is you're in NYC, where guys know how to dress, so rocking a suit might actually not stand out as much, unless you're really rocking one. i.e. accessories etc, with the bankroll to match.

Wearing a suit is great if it is congruent with your lifestyle.

The best solution is to experiment with your own personal style. Try different outfits and see what you feel most confident in.

Certain outfits work in certain environments, so you may try out different venues with a variety of outfits and see what clicks with your personal vibe and swagger.

When I had to wear a suit to work five days a week, I didn't like wearing one out.

Now that I (usually) go to work in jeans and a t-shirt, the idea of suiting up is exciting.

Even just a blazer gets my blood flowing.

If you want to relate more to your own age group and still fleece the suits...go for a more edgy cuts, I sometimes see younger guys sporting flying squirrel suits...i.e. they don't fit properly. Go for the edgy European cuts with some a catchy shirt and don't wear a tie. Just keep in mind to know your surroundings, you have to be able to relate to people and a suit can come off poorly/trying to hard in the wrong environment.

I had the same problem in my early 20s. I always had a more mature demeanor and look to where people always assumed I was much older than I really am. Being a business major in college in a tough discipline reflected that as well. Shit finally started balancing out at like 25 when everyone my age caught up to what I was on. I lost out on some younger chicks because of it. Always attracted late 20s and up. I simply would look retarded if I tried to dress the way some of my friends who had more youthful features and ways of thinking would dress (i.e. whatever was urban and trendy at that particular time). Kind of had no choice since I'm my father's son. My game and frame is pretty much patterned after him.

This is ridiculous. OP clearly stated he was in NYC, which presumably means Manhattan the vast majority of the time.

1% of venues? Maybe in Peoria, or Blowing Rock, or El Paso. In fact, I'd also say that younger women are MORE impressed with suit game. Because none of their peers ever wear them.

If anything, watches are the most overrated thing on the forum. 1% of women care about them, if that.

As others have noted, the key is how OP feels when he goes out in a bespoke suit or etc.

You will get more positive attention from hotter girls in a bespoke or well-fitting suit and Hermes/Ferragamo/Versace tie, ceteris paribus. As long as it fits your image and you are 100% comfortable in it.

The last 4 women I picked up this year in my suit/tie/pocket sq were 21, 22, 19, and a 27-yr old with a 7.5 face/ridiculous gift-from-god 10 body [all natural too].

Every single one of them said they spotted me the first 5 seconds I walked into the bar because of how I was dressed, one of whom worked in fashion, to be fair.

Do I wear it to a western-themed shitkicker bar when I'm in Texas? No.

All over Manhattan? Yep. Hotel bars are probably the best places to pick up hot women who are out of town and drinking alone [and who obviously have a room nearby].

Not to derail the thread, but I've been vegetarian since I was a kid, so maybe that has something to do with not looking too old. I've read that being vegetarian is good for aging.

I'm going to try this.

I've done nights out with a blazer, but usually with grey or khaki chinos. I've never actually tried it with dark jeans. The difference might be subtle, but maybe noteworthy.

A guy with blazer and chinos always makes me think that he works in a cubicle or is on a hotel staff or something

Try it with dark blue or dark grey/black jeans, boots (dress or casual), a belt with a cool buckle, and a pocket square

Makes a big difference in your vibe
