Where to Hang in NYC ( response to PMs )
Some guys have been PMing me about where to hang in NYC.

I wrote up some data on this a couple of years ago, and I believe there is a thread on it as well.

That said, my general advice is to find a place that fits your vibe. I know it sounds simple, but don't try going to a Jersey Shore type nightclub if you can't hang with meat heads and bitchy Jersey girls.

Also, don't go dressed as a Douche to some hipster hang (unless you are actually cool). Even if you are cool, you will get immediately judged on the spot if you contradict the vibe.

Go on yelp and do a search for your scene.

I can tell you that, in general, Brooklyn is great for indie/hipster/party girls. Find warehouse parties in Bushwick or go to one the bars out there.

Manhattan has some places like this in the LES as well.

If you are a douchey guy- hit up places in Manhattan where the bridge and tunnel swarm.

There are also a lot of rooftop bars and cocktail lounges popping up like crazy in Manhattan. Good for the suited up player.

Tonight the weather is good, and there is a lot of sexual energy in the air (sorry if that sounds kind of new-age), so go out and conquer.

---

Keep in mind- a lot of my bangs lately have been from OKCupid girls that don't want to go out to clubs.

I don't hang at sports bars. I do play the instruments though.

What’s the best brunch party scene this season? Bagatelle shut theirs down, no? Lavo still good?

How are the second tier joints like Gansevoort Park?

Lavo still pops for brunch. I'm still a huge fan of Pranna for the brunch party scene myself

Soup (and anyone else) Can you recommend some good places for great live "original" bands where drinks don't cost a fortune and the cover is reasonable?

Not trying to shit on anyone who manages to do work at brunch (and I know some of you do), but this is just an observation: how much is it a sign of the overall feminization of this generation that the singles scene has moved from nights at clubs and bars to fucking brunch?

It's hard to channel your old school playboy when you're trying to mack girls over egg whites and mimosas instead of cigarettes and martinis.

j r, apples and oranges. If you go to Balthazar or Marc Forgione's Tribeca restaurant (who has a bottomless brunch) you will be surrounded by movers and shakers. I'm convinced that in New York it's all about the venue and the different social groups that frequent them.

Arriving in NY in about a week. Have a grand total of 1 girl warmed up on OKCupid. Where's a good spot to meet up for a casual drink? I'm staying with a family friend, not too far from NYU.

Yes.. Thank you.. the whole brunch social scene seems so corny to me. Old school day game is the way to go in NYC. When I'm there I can't be bothered to deal with the simple-minded people who go to brunch and clubs.

Zinc Bar is a good spot near NYU to meet up for drinks.

Cool.

What kind of place is it? Student bar? Food? Loud music?

I don't hang at sports bars. I do play the instruments though.

Vodou lounge didn't seem sporty at all to me, I saw no big screen or nothing that would indicate they watch sports there.

its a swanky real jazz club that chicks dig and has a cool scene. some night there is a cover, but not if you are at the bar. if you do pay the small cover you can bet its probably a world class jazz musician. stay there for a while then go over to the comedy cellar.

Not the greatest time to pop my NYC cherry. Cold and snowing like a motherfucker. Met some of my friends crew though and people here are pretty electric. I was supposed to head down Mexico way to Centroamerica and find some ESL work, but I'd like to come back here and visit during the warmer months. When's the best time?

The skirts come on in April but the sweet spot is end of May/early June as you have a mix of students and tourists. June-Aug gets quite humid but there's loads going on from outdoor festivals to random street events. The weather's been particularly unkind this winter.

My friend has been very apologetic about the weather and how I'm missing out on a lot of what the city has to offer. Sadly this is just the way my schedule worked out. I am hearing the city really catches fire from the spring time onwards as you said. I'd love to maybe plant my feet and dedicate a month or so here, if funds allow. What shit do you usually get up to during this time of year?

RE: Where to Hang in NYC ( response to PMs )
I don't go out as much in the winter months; I feel like I have to use the shit weather to my advantage and get as much done as I can before spring arrives.

But bars still get crowded in the winter, moreso than the summer I think. The clubs are still open too. Lots of people also like to do house parties in the winter to avoid going out. It's the day after Valentine's so I'm sure any brave soul marching through the slush wants to have fun. I've switched my energies over to day game and have felt myself getting lazy on a night out. Don't know how long you're here for but I find weeknights more fun; you get less big groups rolling together for birthday/selfie-day.

Try Lower East Side for low key bars/clubs and Meatpacking for the high end scene.
