The act of driving a car after a few drinks doesn't deserve the harsh penalties that are often administered now. Men spend weeks or months in jail all for a .10 blood level. But killing someone while driving is a different case. This kid whose accident killed four deserved some time in jail. And his age shouldn't be an excuse. Teenagers younger than him have received full adult sentences for their crimes.

I had to meet with a psychologist as part of my custody battle. It's cost about $10k. I'm sure his lawyer cost about $4k-5k.

I agree the kid is a spoiled little brat and should have done jail time.

I don't know what planet you live on, but people can and do criticize minorities all the time. Quite loudly in fact. There are whole websites and communities dedicated to it.

Also applies to not talking to the cops. Watching an episode of Cops (guilty pleasure) with a friend and he exclaims "What an idiot, why did he just flat out admit to the crime? The cop didn't have squat".

What's fucked up is his lawyer argued he should be given special privilege... because he grew up with special privilege.

He's never learned the consequences of his actions... so we should make sure the actions he took don't have consequences.

As opposed to actually enforcing the law.

Oh yeah, happens here in Croatia all the time. We've had a guy run over two schoolgirls with his Mercedes (on a pedestrian crossing) and he got a few years probation because he has to attend a private school in Switzerland so it would inconvenience him. Or the tycoon who was driving his megayacht while doing something else (receiving a blowjob from a prostitute, it is rumored) and killed an Italian couple on a sailboat. Or the guy who ran over 3 people with his BMW and didn't even have his driving license suspended.

Come to think of it, the only reason why most Croats found USA alluring was that such obvious mockeries of justice don't happen there. I guess even that's gone now.

Between this guy, not one single Wall Street prosecution for fraud during the run-up to the credit crisis, not one trial for torture or other war crimes during the Bush presidency, not one trial for the ridiculous lying to Congress done by James Clapper under Obama---if this isn't evidence that the "law" is selectively applied to shield the powerful from accountability while inflicting progressively draconian penalties on non-elites, I don't know what is.

If the father/husband of the daughter & wife who were killed picked up a gun and shot this kid, I would vote to acquit him if I was on the jury. Seriously. When justice cannot be obtained through the system---indeed, when the system is used to shield elites from accountability---then the only recourse is to obtain it in the streets. Otherwise, what you have is tyranny. And I mean real tyranny not trumped up, faux outrage, Tea Party bullshit.
