RE: Actor Paul Walker Reported Dead
My hope is that he died on impact, and didn't die burning in the wreck. And yeah...the teases on the internet and on the news on tv didn't give any indication that he wasn't the driver. I don't think it's celeb worship to acknowledge and feel bad that someone died tragically. It's always news when someone famous dies, and don't see why we need to act like we don't care at all. These are people that entertain us, and it isn't necessarily worship to say that we're sorry someone's gone because we enjoyed their movies, music, or whatever they did to entertain us. We'll move on and forget about this the same way we do when anyone else that we don't really know dies. But for today, it's perfectly fine for us to give it some attention.

RE: Actor Paul Walker Reported Dead
I don't give a f*ck because he wouldn't care if I died in a fiery crash.

However, he did seem like a pretty cool cat. Did a little reading on the guy.

Surfer, loved the ocean, grandfather was a pro boxer, hell, I share a bunch in common with the guy.

I am actually mildly surprised I never crossed paths with the guy, although he does remind me of some friends I have. Actually seems like a typical kid who grew up in a Southern California beach town.

Seems a lot better than the typical Hollywood chump; hell, maybe that's why he wasn't the greatest actor in the world. You can't have it all.

But the cat seemed pretty happy.

The take-away from this for me is always the same; Life is f*cking short.

Don't bitch and moan.

RE: Actor Paul Walker Reported Dead
May he rest in peace.

I enjoyed his movies - they were nothing special but good popcorn and soda movies - just entertainment.

I never heard anything bad about him and I never heard him doing attention whoring/out of control stuff.

But I don't see him as a James Dean thing - James Dean has a whole legend thing around him and continues to this day. Paul Walker is no James Dean - not even in the wannabe culture that we have these days. Hell Health Ledger is mainly forgotten and he seemed to be destined for more than Paul Walker. And I don't mean to disrespect Paul Walker - like I said I liked his films and you never heard about him being an asshole - granted I don't follow pop culture much so I don't know maybe he was an asshole.

But he also wasn't the driver - not much legend can be built around that either.

I don't understand the need for people to go to the site of the crash and cry and burn candles. I just don't understand how deeply people can build an emotional attachment to someone you have never met (or met once). There is even a mental illness where people think stars are in love with them - even if they have never met.

"Erotomania is characterized by a belief that someone is in love with the individual. This is especially common in the case of believing that a famous or high profile person is in love with an individual despite no signs confirming this and often in the face of hardly knowing or not even having met the person!"

I just don't get it. But I don't blame Paul Walker - he was doing the most he could with his talents - more than many of us will ever accomplish.

Watched the video, it's terrible. He seemed like a really chill guy, looked really young/handsome for his age. Plus he was an automotive enthusiast. Both will be missed- total shame that both him and his race team partner died, leaving so many family members/friends/fans to mourn. Carrera GTs are bitchin but this serves as an example of how dangerous and hard to drive they can be. Even seasoned drivers have a hard time. This reminds me of when Jackass's Ryan Dunn died, in a Porsche as well.

Way to miss the point. Obviously he wasn't a household name, but he was famous enough. He made much more of a name for himself than most people ever do.

Are you especially impressed by anyone who has a job that gets their face known? There are tons of jobs like D-list actors, TV news anchors, porn stars, politicians... all sorts of gigs that make your face known to a good bunch of people. Doesn't make any of those a special achievement.

Walker may have been a great guy in person but what has he done that's worthy of all this special talk about how "he has made a name for himself" besides what every female porn star has done - been good-looking on camera?

Quote:Let me know when you read a headline in an international paper about Joe Schmoe who worked in a factory in Des Moines who died in a car crash

Speaking about missing the point, did you notice the part where I tried to imply that getting your name published in newspapers when you die in a car crash isn't exactly a life goal worth pursuing? If that Joe Schmoe has real friends, a wife and kids genuinely grieving after him, that would likely make him a lot happier in his grave than an article in a newspaper and probably the same goes for Walker as well.

(Of course, my life goal isn't that bland - I want to be infamous enough that when I die newspapers write about it, but I'd rather have those journalist bastards crying when I'm alive and celebrating when I die.)

Seemed like a nice guy and sad to see any guy die like that.

Curious as to what they are going to do with his character in the next fast furious movie!

"If one day speed kills me, do not cry because I died smiling." - Paul walker.

Check out the last pic taken before he died. It's him and the driver in front of the car. His facial expression almost foreshadows death in the future.

Damn it really is true that he is dead, I'm mad he is dead.

Paul walker is a good chilled-out masculine male. Possibly one of the few good non-beta dudes around.

He could have raised his daughter with good values and being a good male role model for her and could have made an awesome wife for an alpha male or beta male...but instead she is left without a dad and not will grow up into another narcissistic American slut.Sad for him and sad for her.

one can tell you're finnish. You seem to strive for mediocrity and love talking bad about people who've achieved more in life than you have. The typical "more concerned about what your neighbour has vs. what you have" syndrome.

While I agree that people tend to exagerate, you can't take back the fact that he was a self made millionaire and made the best out of what he had at his disposal. I see plenty of handsome guys just laying around at home, jerking off and playing videogames- never ending up with what they could. It's not like Walker didn't have to go for what he had.

Running Scared was his best movie, actually a brilliant movie in comparison to the FnF franchise.

Also I'm way over celebrity car crashes since 1997, when that whore crashed and had a football match I was waiting for cancelled.

People are local. They tend to care about themselves, then their families, then their friends (sometimes friends come before family), then their acquaintances, then their neighbors, then their compatriots, etc. Lastly, they care about abstract entities known as random human beings living in Whogivesafuckistan.

A celebrity is a sort of unidirectional acquaintance, in the sense that millions "know" him, but he does not know everyone who "knows" him. If such a celebrity dies, the execution of the lost acquaintance software app is triggered in the brains of many human beings who happened to "know" said celebrity. We now see the effects of millions of brains executing this app concurrently.

Moreover, since I was quite upset at Ruslana Korshunova's death, I can relate to the mass hysteria. Paul Walker was quite handsome. The world is slightly uglier without him. He should have had 20 kids, for eugenic purposes. If he had procreated with females of high biological quality, he could have spawned some 10+ future hotties.

They actually hadn't started shooting yet. It was in pre-production. According to the director, it's obviously too soon to think about what new direction the film will take - right now production has been suspended to give everyone involved the chance to mourn. I'm sure it was like a reunion every time they got together to shoot a new film, and they all probably spent a good amount of time together just drinking and having a good time when they weren't shooting.

I abhor celebrity adoration but this is not really fair. Icarus already said it better than me, but it's impossible for Humans to relate to millions of other people around the world who we have nothing in common with. It might not be right but it's easier to relate to someone we see and "know" than all those masses we have no idea exist.

But anyway, acknowledging this guy's death doesn't mean we don't think the events you showed are horrible as well, one thing doesn't exclude the other.

I'm not saying this is the biggest tragedy ever, surely not, in the big scheme of things it's minuscule, but I think it's ok to think, damn, that was a fucked up thing to happen, poor guy.

Paul Walker had a non profit which helped people

Quote:HOW WE STARTED
Reach Out Worldwide is an official 501©(3), non-profit disaster relief organization. ROWW was co-founded by actor and producer, Paul Walker, who together with a team of professionally trained and skilled friends, descended into the aftermath of the monumental earthquake that devastated Haiti on January 12, 2010.

As a world traveler, Paul had been witnessing the intense impact of disasters in some of his favorite locations.
