I think some of the best modern contemporary classical music is on film soundtracks.
The soundtrack for 'Perfume - The Story of a Murderer' is majestic.
The movie itself is a personal favourite of mine, also a lot of 'artsy' women have read the novel it's based on (Das Parfum), particularly German girls, as the original novel is in German.
'Das Parfum game' has worked wonders for me with hipster/artsy girls.
Whether as a Hail Mary to rescue a flagging set or as something to casually drop into a conversation about books/films/music you love, watch the girl's eyes light up.

Bernstein was the monarch of classical music. Mostly anything worth watching had him at the podium. He chose who made it and who didn't. He alone was responsible for reviving the music of Gustav Mahler after a long period of neglect. Even after achieving worldwide fame for composing the music of West Side Story, it meant nothing to him, and chose to be buried with a score of Mahler's 5th on his chest.

He was the most eloquent man ever put down on record. He could speak about paint drying on the wall and make it sound like the most fascinating thing in the world. Listening to him speak was almost a greater pleasure than listening to him conduct.

One of the great American geniuses. He came from an era that produced true cultural icons, men who lived and died for their professions, who gave their blood and sweat for perfection. Long gone are those great men.

Shostakovich's work needs a bump here. My favorite is the Seventh symphony, partially because I'm a history buff. After his volunteer enlistment into the Soviet infantry was rejected due to his terrible eyesight, Shostakovich wrote this symphony to represent the bitter resistance of his home city of Leningrad against the German invaders. For its Leningrad radio premiere, Karl Eliasberg, the conductor of the Leningrad symphony, had to run around the city dodging Nazi artillery fire and bombs looking for anyone who could play an instrument since all but 14 members of his orchestra had been killed.

With the possible exception of the violin, the piano is arguably the greatest solo instrument. It is the instrument where the higest levels of performance are found, with the largest repertoire of works by the great composers.
