You guys that have live in Jakarta....what sites do you recommend for getting an apartment. I'm looking at setting up base in Jakarta for a new job. I would only be there about half the month. Do you think it would be better to just rent a place nightly for the 15 days on agoda.com or get a monthly place. Ive googled some rental companies, but everything looks pretty shitty. I'm trying to get the most bang for my buck as far as luxury and location. My budget is 2-3k a month.

Any experience with places in that price range? Would it be impressive or just like a average apartment in a western city.

Just got back from my 11 day trip to Jakarta. Had the time of my life! Thanks for the info guys, spot on with all of it.

I got 8 new notches, 7 from online/Tinder, 1 from Dragonfly.

My online/date game has come a long way this year, killing it these days. My night game has dropped off, i think the online success has given me a lazy i don’t care attitude when out and i can’t focus on one girl.

Online:
Tinder (500 matches over 2 weeks, i swipe all to the right, 70%+ were fat/ugly)

Gym:
Went to fitness first on level 11 in Grand Indonesia. $50 for 7 days but they don’t check so i used it for 10 days.

Accommodation:
Stayed walking distance to Grand Indonesia, best decision made.

Food:
Restaurants in the malls are good
Bluegrass – this place is a must, order the ribs
Loewys – good food
Social House – good food and wine
Skye Bar – Just went for a drink, way too loud

Night life (my suggestions on where you should go):
Sun – Tues: Kemang (Nu China, 999, Tipsy, Attic), full of sober teenagers, waste of time, not many people with money here and if you get a girls contact get her BBM as she probably only have a blackberry. I went 4x and didn’t pull, was the only white guy too. I would suggest going on dates these days and only checking out Kemang if you really want to go out, drink prices are around $7.

Wed: Dragonfly – dress well

Thurs: X2 – arrive at 12:30, it is only good from 1 – 3am, and not many people so pick a girl at 1am and stick to her

Friday/Sat: X2, Dragonfly, but most places should be good

I also checked out:
Blowfish – nice place, indo-chinese crowd mainly, i didn’t see many girls to open, dress well
Potatoe Head Garage – classy bar for a date
Potatoe Head – nice place for drinks, food too expensive and no aircon

Girls:
I have nothing negative to say about the indo girls, all girls i met were great, no drama, perfect English, great fun. So much variety too, large eyed, tanned skin indo girls to the small eyed, white skin chinese and everything in between. Most have great bodies too.

Traffic is a joke, make sure your walking distance from your date location, traffic from 10pm – 5am is fine. Also like Brodiaga said buy a bottle of alcohol and predrink, drink prices in the good clubs are $12. I bought a bottle of vodka for $60 in the lower floor of Grand Indonesia.

Jakarta is now my second favourite city after Bangkok. Must check it out!

It has to be sweltering in JKT even at night. I imagine pants and a t-shirt isn't a problem at venues with a laid back vibe but what did you wear to the high end clubs? How do the local dudes dress?

$60 for a liter of vodka I assume. That booze tax is a killer. Is that the norm or did you buy a nice bottle?

At night its not too hot, i just wore nice shoes, jeans and a shirt at high end clubs, locals dressed similar to that too.

Booze tax, it was just a standard Smirnoff vodka.

On the topic of pre-drinking, what are the customs restrictions on bringing alcohol into the country? I read you're allowed to bring in one bottle up to 1 litre, but if anyone can confirm I'd appreciate it.

Haha true. I just personally dont see the point of going to a place like Jakarta just to have sex with girls from tinder. Indonesia is an amazing country and there are far better reasons to travel here than that.

Never been to SEA. I have 3 weeks of vacation that I was going to use only in Thailand, until I read this thread. Could you guys that have been to Thailand and Indonesia and Philippines steer me in the right direction, please? Country/cities? I want girls, beaches, culture, but girls are my first priority.

gps1976 i would do 3 weeks in BKK if you want a mix of girls and good nightlife, then take a trip to one of the beaches for a few days.

That liquor store at the bottom of grand Indonesia did not have much for selection if it's the same place we are talking about. I just bought my booze from beer garden they had a decent selection and the prices were fair, they also included mix with the purchase also.

I don't want to link the sites but theres a bunch of them out there. I noticed them when I was checking out where to buy liquor. I mean, it seems sketchy but if it is legit it would solve a big problem. The other thing I noticed is people recommending the duty free shops in Kemang.

I will be in JKT with my buddies in a month or so and I plan to try it out. I was hoping someone already had so I'd know whether or not to mess with it and which of the plethora of websites to use. Just did a quick search and the first one that popped up was Jakartaliquor. Their prices are still high but not terrible and all the sites have a decent selection of booze.

I don't think this has been mentioned here yet, but for anyone who wants to stay in Jakarta for at least a month and minimize costs, there is something called 'kos-kosan' which will probably be a lot cheaper than AirBnB. You can find these listed on websites like kostjakarta.com or infokost.net. It can be a little bit of a pain in the ass to find one which isn't overly strict. For example, some of them don't allow girls to enter your room. Usually they don't require any deposit and have a minimum stay of only one month. You'll probably want to get a local to help you check availability.

I paid 3jt IDR (256 USD at today's rate) per month which included electricity. For rules, this one had a paper saying that people couldn't stay over which I mostly ignored and sometimes pointed it out as a easy way to get a girl to go home. It has a central location but nothing in walking distance except street food and a very low end bar.

I consider this one of the good points of Jakarta, as I don't know many big cities where you can find a room at this level of quality and flexibility at a low price.

Dateinasia is very easy, quality is unreliable but overall I like having an account open there. Okcupid has better girls on average and it's my preferred source. Interpals seems untapped but the girls might be a bit prude. With Jakartans being very enthusiastic users of Twitter, I feel like there's potential there but I have no idea how to utilize it. I don't really like phone dating apps as much because it's more tedious to use due to the interface, but Tinder is the best one right now.

Street game is a rare thing in Jakarta but if you like that, the best place would be on Sudirman on weekdays when people finish working.

Setiabudi1 building is a good place. It has many medium-end restaurants and it doesn't feel as claustrophobic as most malls. It has a cheap theater ($2 on weekdays), and the smoking area is nice and shaded, almost peaceful.

Some malls have a canteen with cheap food (for example, lotte shopping avenue basement) for workers. I don't think the food will be good but it will likely be full of girls because that's mainly who works in the mall.

Jakarta has UBER now... Yay.
