I haven't looked for long term rentals there and would also be interested in more information on this subject.

Bangkok seems much easier than Jakarta when it comes to finding a place to live. Also, MRT/BTR make it much easier to get around. In Jakarta, using public transport is not a viable option.

Edit: out of interest, I did a quick search on http://www.rumah123.com/en.html , and it seems that apartments in newer buildings and good locations start at around $600-650/month for a 40 sq m 1br. For bigger apartments, sky is the limit. This is for furnished apartments, long term contracts.

Jakarta has always been pretty low on my places to hit in Asia.

But this white god thing appears to be a universal experience from everyone who goes there. I'm becoming more and more interested in checking this whole thing out.

it's a supply and demand thing, bkk is 20 years ahead of jkk (sky train, etc), so you have only a small number of decent buildings, because of the fucked up traffic you need to be central, and the economy is booming so rich locals and expats just pay up, expats don't care because company pays, and locals buy to invest. the reason bkk is overrun with retirees, backpackers, sexpats, etc, (which makes things tougher with the ladies) is that it is an awesome, easy to love city. jkk is not, and will not be for a long time. take a turn off mangabesar into one of the small side streets (which is square in the centre), after 100m you see the most depressing poverty i have ever seen, and i have seen the favelas in brasil and the barrios in colombia. rats everywhere, no electricity or running water etc.

Got my first Indo flag in HKG on Saturday night. Was very easy. I purposely went out to finally get a notch in HKG. Like you Ryan I rely on pipelining badoo works quite well for me in HKG also getting to grip with WE chat. Unfortunately most Indonesian girls I come across in HK have very poor English and seem to be quite odd, slightly bats in my view. A large majority also want this and that from financial reward to perfumes to bloody everything. I much prefer the girls from the Phil's. Great humour,great in the sack and good company. However looking at this I may just have to try to get down for a weekend. Please keep posting your updates. Great work

Indo girls are often in Malaysia and HK, working as maids and such for work.

They leave their home and their family purely for financial gain, it would be hard to expect them to turn that switch off, particularly when in the company of a white guy.

Back home, many don't tend to have that instinct. many who are as ambitious never leave, and many of the ones that return can accept a less material life.

JKK is great because of the scale.

East Java though I reckon has some of the friendliest people in the world, girls not excepted.

I can see that Nu China and Barcode are a few blocks from this hotel which means a bunch of other clubs, bars and restaurants are in the neighborhood too. You may still need a taxi to get around, because only some parts of Kemang are walkable.

It looks like a good location to explore Kemang, but the traffic between Kemang and other parts of Jakarta can get pretty bad sometimes - something to keep in mind if you also want to explore other areas.

I landed Saturday afternoon in Jakarta. I was really tired Saturday, didn't drink enough coffee and was partying in Bali the couple days before. Regardless met up with a girl from online dating. About 3 hours later she was at my hotel touching my dick but for some reason I decided not to bang her. I think my standards are going up after being in asia for a month and a half. This girl was a bit too easy, boring and busted. I also was bored probably because I just left a week long asian fling with a girl that I really connected with. I wasted a Saturday and I'm only staying a short time here. I should've ejected sooner from the date when I wasn't feeling her, but I felt guilty because she spent the cab money and hours in traffic to come see me haha.

Overall I have to say I'm more intimidated by this city than others in southeast asia I've visited which include Singapore, KL, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Saigon. The traffic is no joke and the city is not pedestrian friendly. I feel pretty isolated in my hotel even though it's walking distance to the grand indo. Most of the time walking around, in restaurants and in cafes, I'm the only white person. Even in my hotel I've only seen one other white person. The muslim majority population probably has an influence on how I feel as well, but I think the muslims are probably more liberal here than KL (still took one down there!). That said, the taxi situation isn't bad here and English is fairly well spoken.

I am getting a lot of attention from online dating, Tinder, Wechat and in real life. For me, I think the average quality of the girls here is a bit lower than other countries in southeast asia. The girls are a bit taller and fuller than other asians and I prefer them a bit more petite (I'm only 5'7 myself). That said, there's millions of people here and plenty of hot girls. Yesterday I met a girl I found nearby on WeChat and had an instadate within 15 minutes. We went to sky bar but she was repeatedly getting calls from her mother asking where she was. This girl was 25 too. I've been cockblocked a couple times in asia by the fact that many women still live with their family and have to lie to stay out late or spend the night out.

I have another date from online tonight. I tend to have better luck from nightlife than online/tinder so I will probably stay in the city a few more days see what happens when the nightlife picks up.

Cheers a hotel their is offering me 50% off for a week if I review them in my blog. So im wondering if its a good place to base myself. its still $20 a night but for that location I think its hard to get better? all hotels that have decent reviews seem to be over $30+ unless I am doing something wrong?

I've been to Saigon, though I didn't game there.

Vietnamese girls have more pale skin, probably a little taller on average and have nicer bodies compared to Indo girls. The difference is not big enough, though, to choose Vietnam over Indonesia just because of the way girls look.

Compared to Saigon, Jakarta has better restaurants, bars and clubs. There aren't that many tourist attractions in either of these cities. I would would rather be in Jakarta than Saigon as a tourist or expat.
