Can we switch the discussion to which stores sport the best peacoats?

Most of the peacoats shown above are too boxy/squarish, add too much space at the midsection, don't have enough structure, and have too much exposure of the neck and upper chest. Neither stylish nor very practical for shielding against the wind.

I've seen much better peacoats on real people but I've never seen them in stores.

Diesel has had slim fit peacoats in past years. May be able to find one on eBay. Just looked on zappos and they have some weird one with leather.

That Hugo Boss above is also a slim fit. Works well for me. Haven't tried on a Diesel.

Schott NYC has a cool slim fit peacoat. Real Melton wool. I tried it on and felt nice. I ended up going with their car coat though. I'm 6' 170# and a small was form fitting for me.

I own two peacoats. One is LLBean and the other is a Tommy Hilfiger. The LLB is more classic, thicker, and warmer with a 100% wool outer layer. It's slightly more boxy than the TH which is a little more fitted, but uses an inferior wool/poly blend.

I've also owned the US government-procured version (Sterlingwear of Boston) in the past and I don't like them because they put padding in the shoulders. On the plus side they make many sizes so you can get a good fit.

For the real deal (quality-wise, regarding the wool fabric, if in good condition) you would want to look for a WW2-era vintage pea coat, but they are hard to find in larger sizes (and expensive when you do).

I just got this from Billy Reid....007 wore it in China in Skyfall and after the movie Daniel Craig kept 2 for himself. I love the coat and it is probably the best quality coat I have ever had. People in Aspen last week were stopping me and asking me where I got it. I have never seen material like it before. Very happy with it and it is made in Italy and has more style than a normal peacoat. Black leather under the collar and under the pocket flaps. It is taper cut not boxy like normal peacoats and the lapels curve instead of fold over.

Bumping up this thread since I'll be moving to St. Petersburg, Russia soon and I'll need a winter coat for the first time in years. Most winter coats are ugly and only functional. I have a Schott peacoat for less cold temperatures (maybe 30 f to 60f) but I need a warm, stylish winter coat for the very frigid Russian winters that I can wear out and look solid whether to clubs, on dates, or to work. Any recommendations? Don't mind spending up to about USD $1000.

^^ The jacket putin has on is your best investment.

To be really honest, heavy winter gear needs to forgo being stylish to a point for the sake of function (keeping you warm). If you want stylish, get a peacoat, hat, and a thick as *uck scarf. You'll be colder, but that's the price you pay for looking good.

An overcoat would suit some tastes, I prefer it as you can layer it with other clothing and choose to button it up.
