RE: Living in Sweden. All what you need to know.
Quote:If you have a trade skill--welding, construction/home improvement (professionally), chef to name a few, you can find work fairly easily. There's usually a large amount of immigrants working within the these fields.

I remember seeing the annual list of in high demand skilled trades for Sweden.

Here it is.

When I was filling in the paperwork for my residency permit having a Red Seal in one of these trades was the clincher for them. No matter what happened with my professional pursuits in Sweden, I would have no trouble finding work.

Quote: There's quite a few asylum seeking immigrants who just leech off of society and give nothing in return, which skews the statistics.

This is exactly why they like to see the ability to get skilled work before issuing residency permits. They breathe an audible breath of relief when they see motivated, educated, skilled workers being issued residency.

When I was getting my biometrics done for residency, the whole place was full of "asylum seekers". Unfortunately, what is defined as needing asylum in Sweden is very broad. It gets abused. The amount of Africans yelling "Racism" and Middle Easterners crying "oppression" is ruining it for the poor families from war torn shitholes who actually need to escape, and will bust their asses to make a better life. Not just litter the streets of Rosengard with entitled and lazy men who cant wait to rip off the system and Swedes even more.

I would say it's easier for an immigrant to land a job here in Sweden than it is for someone to land the equivalent job in the states.
The thing is, the "unskilled" jobs here pay well enough to give you a chance to live, and not live badly. If you say the US has a 0-100 gap between poor and the rich, Sweden's gap is more like 30-60 on that same scale.

If you have a good job history/CV and your qualified, you can and will land a job here. I know multiple professionals that don't speak much or any Swedish. The thing is, many if not most Swedes are highly educated and highly intelligent, like Laner said. The majority of people who are worth a damn are employed here. There's quite a few asylum seeking immigrants who just leech off of society and give nothing in return, which skews the statistics.

As far as it being double expensive here, I wouldn't go that far. Housing is comparably priced. Food is more a bit expensive, but not double. If you go out to eat you're looking at about 2-2.5 times the price of the states for the most part. Drinks are also excessively expensive, but no different from any other 1st tier American city. However, eating out isn't something you need to do everyday, and drinking can be done before you go out and then buy a few beers throughout the night.

Bottom line, the quality of life is good here and is not unattainable for immigrants. Likewise it's not handed to you on a golden platter. But it's not as if immigrants storm into countries and take over anywhere they go. Immigrants struggle to integrate into society and over time make it with the right attitude.

which % of swedish population are non-native born?I have many friends who went there and they aske themselves...¿where are the blondes?haha.

where can we find a website or some info about a real estimation of the cost of life comparison?

for the rest.Do you augur a good future to the swedish econonomy and society? I would like to have objetctive and realistic info about that

I would say no. Immigration and mentioned azylum seekers are ruining the welfare. If world economy slows again,or when it does, or i guess it might already be like this, the swedish, norwegian and possibly danish system is not sustainable and those places will struggle more rather than continue in a positive direction.

Is that so? I assume you have a crystal ball, I on the other hand brought data.

From the World bank data. GDP growth % by year up to 2012
Brackets denote number of years the country has had the highest growth among the 4 in the category.
Code:
Denmark 0,38 2,30 2,45     3,39    1,58    -0,78    -5,67    1,58    1,10    -0,47 (0/10)
Norway 0,98 3,96    2,59    2,30    2,65    0,07    -1,6    0,48    1,22    3,09  (3/10)
Sweden 2,34 4,23 3,16    4,30    3,31    -0,61    -5,03    6,56    3,71    0,74  (6/10)
USA 2,55  3,48    3,08    2,66    1,91    -0,36    -3,11    2,38    1,80    2,21  (1/10)

I am sorry, i am not much into economics...but i know that Norway has world's largest sovereign wealth fund of $800 billion and they still have lots of oil and gas money coming. Considering their population is also half of sweden, they can easily attain a good economic growth with low unemployment with that much amount of sovereign wealth fund.

I am not against sweden or any other country but sweden doesn't have any wealth fund like that.

Not all immigrants ruin the welfare system. Young immigrants who come to a welfare country and work for 30-40 years pay their fair share of taxes. Thus, if they put in the system, they should get their benefits like healthcare, public transport and pension in older age.

On the other hand, older immigrants ruin the welfare system as they usually work for 5-10 years and start getting pensions, healthcare etc for the rest of their life.

OP your questions are far too broad, and it's very difficult to read your style of writing. Myself and others have supplied you with ample information that you can't find elsewhere online.

What you ask can be either be found with an intensive google search or is pure speculation that no one knows the answer to.

Do some research and come back with more specific questions.

Actually, his analysis was spot on. His main point was not about money in the bank. Norway's wealth fund is the direct result of long-term sustained growth in the nation's gas and oil industry. So, Noway has both sustained economic growth and, as a result, (probably) the world's largest wealth fund.

Norway is, by far, the most economically sound Scandinavian nation, which is reflected in the fact that it has one of the world's strongest currencies. For that reason, it will probably never adopt the moribund Euro, which is another big economic factor to consider.

What does this have to do with anything? Are you just throwing out random trivia?

GG wrote:

I've shown above how this has not been the case the last decade. There's nothing wrong with Danish or Norwegian economy, but GG's claim which as he himself confesses was spoken by a man "not much into economics" is simply without any merit.

It's hard for me personally to figure out who is more fucked. Denmark, Sweden or Norway. The latter two from absolutely relentess political correctness, but sounder economic policies (or oil), the former far less PC (although still significant) and disastrous economic policies.

This thread is about living in Sweden not who has more money and GDP etc.

Sure Norway has oil and doesn't need the EU because they are "rich", but the place is still very expensive.

Scandinavian countries are no more fucked up than the USA, I hear West Virginia and Alabama are nice this time of year.

I know hands down where I would live.

The thread title is misleading. If you return to the first post, you will see that the OP asked "Which are the economic expectations of the country?," "are they expected to grow?," "What is the direction of the swedish society?(demographics and so on)," "Labor conditions and average cost of living?"

So, this is all fair game.

The U.S. is on the verge of tipping into a full-scale welfare state, but the Scandinavian nations are already well-established there. So, there is much for the OP to consider. Do you value economic freedom or cradle-to-grave security? Do you value liberty or fealty to the welfare state? I would choose West Virginia or Alabama anytime. Do you desire to be a free man or a worker-bee in a hive?

I agree that the U.S. is slowly evolving into a police state, but that is simply a product of a creeping socialist welfare state that the Scandinavian nations already have. As nations become more desperate for revenue to feed their bloated social welfare systems, these police state tactics will only increase.

France, Italy, and Spain already ban cash transactions over certain amounts. Swedish banks have already voluntarily moved in that direction, without any prompting by the government.

In the U.S., we are no longer as free as we once were -- and that is shameful. But we are certainly far more free than the citizens of Sweden and the citizens of the socialist welfare states of western Europe. Quite frankly, the place to live is Asia or living a mobile existence.

I think Switzerland actually makes more sense. In the centre of Europe - Paris, Vienna, Milan, Florence, Monaco can be reached in a few hours drive. Amongst the highest wages in the world. Beautiful country. Generally conservative (women didn't get the vote till 1964). Strong democracy (referendums are common, and they're not going to let themselves get run over by Muslims like the rest of Europe). And no one can be bothered to invade it.

So you think you are free in the good ole USA huh! I wonder what the NSA, CIA, FBI, TSA and Homeland Security think about that.
Last time I travelled to good ole USA I had to go through two security checks and heavy questioning, to think I was only going on business.
Last time I visited Stockholm, I landed at Vasteras airport flashed my Euro passport and was greeted by a cute blonde customs officer (no joke).
You keep talking about nations being desperate for money, what is the national debt in good ole USA? Rumour has it they are about to go broke, can't keep printing greenbacks forever.

Well, the point of this thread is economic freedom, so I shall stay on point. There is no question that more economic freedom exists in the U.S. than in Sweden. Study after confirms that fact.

Exactly. That is why it is building a trillion dollar national wealth fund. I have no love for any of the social welfare states, but at least Norway acts in a somewhat prudent manner -- at least in terms of assuring future revenue. As its revenues from oil decline, Norway will need to draw revenue from its wealth fund and also cut welfare spending. But at least a trillion dollar wealth fund shows that Norway has a plan to face long-term financial reality and provides it with some time to transition its economy.

Again this thread is about Sweden, it is not about the oil fund of Norway.

Please tell me about the oil fund in the USA?

I mean all I read about is there national debt and how bad things are there.

Oil is declining from 2001. Natural gas production is increased since last 10 years. In 2030, we will make oil production to negligible level but would still have natural gas production quite high.

The main factor to consider is that they have build this fund from 1996 and 100% of the oil and gas profits goes to this fund. Thus, they are having a welfare state without even using large amounts of oil and gas profits (However, they use a part of their capital gains from the fund).

Also, by 2030 according to some forecast, their fund will be $3.3 Trillion worth which is large amount of money considering population is will be around 5 Million.

Norway's oil supplies are in decline. By 2030 they're not going to get any income from oil and gas, and they really don't have much else.

Oil is declining from 2001. Natural gas production is increased since last 10 years. In 2030, NORWAY will make oil production to negligible level but would still have natural gas production quite high.
