The UK media are tonight on the news trying to portray the Roma as brilliant people. Just had a huge argument with my Mother on the phone. I'm in the US now but used to live in Portugal and there's several gypsy communities there so I have long time exposure and experience with them. As un pc and bad as it may sound everything said in this thread is true, they're filthy, parasitic and criminal. It can't be easy for them I admit, since absolutely no one likes them, but they in turn hate everyone. Let's put it this way, even the "the world is rainbows and kittens", "let's feed the poor African children" and "let's adopt a Chinese baby" type of people don't like them.

I'm glad that several people made the distinction between Romanians and gypsies, because they're completely different people.

Yep, its probably more accurate to view those scumbag somali's as black arabs.

There are some pretty educated Africans that I have met, the vast majority of them being from well to do West African families.

Somali's and to a certain extent Sudanese people, I would class as black arabs rather than Africans.

The real Roma are people who don't send their children to school but they teach their children how to be a pickpocket or sell their daughters as prostitutes. I think that there is one Roma clan (from Bulgaria I think), the calderashi(spelling?) who are raised to be pick pockets and hookers. I saw a documentary once and not only is it accepted, it's literally their pride and their culture to be good thieves. In very true sense a criminal tribe.

It's funny. My mother, who was a big-time hippie in the 60's and took part in anti-Vietnam demonstrations at the Pentagon among other things, even she is starting to get pissed off at all this political correctness.

Whenever she gets mad at something in the news I just shrug my shoulders and go "hey, this is what you wanted, right?"

Yes, but the UK has a host of other issues regarding immigration/multiculturalism/integration and we don't need another group coming in and stretching resources and tolerance even further.
