None other than The Game by Neil Strauss. I gotta say that it's incredibly entertaining so far and Strauss is a damn good writer. I'm only 50 pages or so in, but so far so good.

A World Lit Only By Fire by William Manchester. It's a lively read on the late Middle Ages and early Renaissance.

It's one of the "lighter" historical books written by Manchester, who took time off from working his third book on Winston Churchill.

It gives some understanding of how bad things got in terms of progress in Western Europe, but the book should probably be read with some background knowledge of the historical period.

It's a good light read.

Halfway through Diplomacy by Kissinger. Genius as it is.

If someone can PM me a .mobi version it would be great, the book is 800 pages long and a hassle to lug around.

I'm reading "The Outpost" by Jake Tapper. It's a history of a military base that was established in 2006, in Nuristan, Afghanistan. The base incredibly isolated, and was eventually attacked by a massive group of insurgents in 2009. I'm just 1/3 of the way through, so it's mostly lead-up information right now. Great book though, kind of longish at 800 pages.

I'm also rereading Hunter S Thompson's book, "The Hell's Angels". It's one of his early books, and pretty great. If it came out today he'd definitely be accused of being a rape apologist though. He says that most of the girls who accused the Hells Angels of rape had actually enjoyed it, but that they were embarrassed afterwards. Definitely plausible, but I'm not sure if the Jezebel crowd would approve. Makes me like him even more though, despite the reputation he has for excessive drugs and booze, he was definitely a smart guy.

I read that this book is excellent at sharpening jokes, comedic timing, delving into the theory of humor, etc. I'm already naturally a funny guy, and I've wondered why people laugh at certain jokes or comments. I've said wildly inappropriate things at work and people let me get away with it because they expect it from me. I remember listening to DD's Cocky Comedy series a couple years ago and that opened my eyes a little at why people laugh in the first place. I think this will be a fun read.

I'm about 200 pages into Gravity's Rainbow right now. I'm not a big fan of it so far. My friends who have read it said to push through the confusing parts, but I feel like I'm missing a lot of it. It's a 700-page book, so it's a big investment for something I'm not exactly enjoying so far. Have any of you guys read it? It gets great reviews online, but I'm starting to think that those are from people who just want to come across as being intellectual. If I don't start enjoying it in the next 100 pages I might just bail on it.



I've also been reading Seth Jone's book "In the Graveyard of Empires". I'm not too far into it, but it's a detailing of the history of military engagements in Afghanistan, with the focus being on the US-Afghan war. I was just 9 when the US invaded Afghanistan, so it's been interesting reading more about the early days. Now seems to be a good time to read it too, as the war winds down towards the January 2015 pull-out date. I actually moved it up my reading list after reading Jake Tapper's "The Outpost" earlier this week, which sparked my interest in the subject.

I was wondering if anyone on here had an e-copy of Matt Taibbi's "The Exile". I've been wanting to read it, but I can't find a pdf/mobi file of it online. I have a lot of e-books on my computer right now, so I can't really justify buying a copy of it. If anyone has it please pm it to me, I have a ton of books I can send your way too.

I was also wondering if anyone had any recommendations for history books on Ancient Greece or Rome. I realized recently that I really don't know too much about either, and I'd love to have a more well-rounded grasp of history.
