So far it's been a pretty good buy. I've been going through school but these days I feel that there is so much missing from it that can prepare someone for the real world.

Powerful book Mai Pei; it was very sobering to me on the American power structure and American mentality. A little socialist leaning, in my opinion, but still a great read.

Currently reading The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. I can see why this book is so famous.

Case in Point by Marc Cosentino.

I'm reading this right now, which I picked up because of my interest in the What's it like to work in consulting thread.

It's really given me a much better idea of what consultants do and the problems that they work on. I didn't even understand how people could be consultants straight out of undergrad before, but I've come to understand that it's generally about solving business problems with strategies that you learn in business school.

The author writes in a very clear, no-bullshit way, and gives tons of good tips for people trying to enter the industry. As a non-MBA it's a little intimidating to me (the idea of working in consulting), but to someone with business acumen it's probably just what you need to get prepped for your interviews.

I'm reading through a few of the cases right now; that in itself is really educational as it provides a look inside the business world, the way that big businesses go about making thier money, the principles that managers follow, and the strategies that consultants use to address challenges and make those big businesses more money, etc.

Right now I'm finishing up the Autobiography of Ben Franklin. I guess finishing up isn't the right term as it's only 150 pages. Anyway, he definitely provides a lot of insight about how to live a life of virtue and discipline.

It's pretty dull at times with all of his printing endeavors and what not, but for it's length it's nothing to protest to.

This book was recommended to me by a mentor. The author is a master networker and the book gives many examples and details how to connect with people and stay in touch with them. Since I started reading it a couple weeks ago I've already applied some of the principles and created new and valuable contacts.

I'll post a short review in the next couple of days.

Rereading Bang and Daygame Mastery.

Reread Fooled by Randomness and Black Swan earlier in the month and now I'm in the middle of Antifragile again.

This was another book recommendation on relationship-building and networking. After finishing Never Eat Alone I wanted to continue down the path of how to connect with people to advance my goals. Surprisingly, I'm learning that even with my minor connections there are still people I can help. This book outlines why that is a good thing and why being a giver can propel us to success. I read the NY Times article about the author, Adam Grant. Overall great piece with some interesting tidbits of information.

"Grant would be the first to say that he is not purely altruistic — that pure altruism, giving without regard for one’s self-interest, perhaps does not even exist. When he writes those 100 student recommendations, he says, he gets the satisfaction of helping them succeed. But there are other happy byproducts of that work as well: he might end up the beneficiary of those students’ good will later on and possibly inspire them to try to do right by those who will eventually ask them for help."

I'll post a review of the book in the next 2 weeks after I've finished it.



I'm also reading Roosh's new book. I'm more than halfway through it and I'll post a review soon. So far it is very good, better than Smiley Face which I really enjoyed.

A friend of mine actually wrote an article for my site about this and Keely was heavily cited:

Aggressive Pacifism: Cultural Marxism and the Myth of the Peaceful Savage

Basically because of the primitive nature of the tactics used, the closeness of battle to the home front (essentially in societies without a vast civilization the two are identical) and the lower populations involved equaled per capita death rates far higher than any civilized form of warfare. It's an interesting line of thought.

Undoubtedly the best book I've read so far this year. Especially like his lessons about systems vs results. Will write a review in due time. His blog is also fantastic but you can tell he holds back some controversial opinions.

Third time I'm reading 48 Laws of Power in 5 years, a lot more of it makes sense now that I've seen things and understand more about how people work. Its one of those books (like 7 Habits or How to Win Friends and Influence People) that you have to re-read at least every 3 or so years.

Finished "East of Eden" for the second time, and have started rereading "The Campaigns of Napoleon."

I have to reread Ron Paul's manifesto "Revolution," again one of these days.

As might be inferred, I'm having a hard time finding any new books that really keep my interest. I'd love to find a good modern novel that's on par with Steinbeck.

Has anyone read Ludwig von Mises? I was considering picking up some of his books on economics.

I just finished "The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde. It was probably one of the most luxurious books I've read, with its rich description of the privileged life of Victorian-era dandy, Dorian Gray. I think jaded would be too soft a word to describe he and his mentor Lord Henry, who pepper their conversations with all manner of nihilistic, hedonistic, narcissistic philosophy, including a few red-pill maxims like the following...

I am afraid that women appreciate cruelty, downright cruelty, more than anything else. They have wonderfully primitive instincts. We have emancipated them, but they remain slaves looking for their masters, all the same. They love being dominated.

The language of Wilde is superb; it vividly transports you to a time and place that most modern writers would struggle to authentically take you. The concept of the book is simple, creative, and reads quickly with a few little twists and turns which keep things entertaining. As for the psychological study of the characters, chiefly Dorian, it says quite a bit about the worship of beauty, selfishness, and a myriad of psychoses which apply as well to the selfie generation as they did to him. It's a nice read.

Among my current reads is the new standard history on Hitler's Holocaust, "Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin," by Timothy Snyder.

Snyder re-contextualizes the familiar 6 million Jews killed in ovens theme by putting that horrific event in the larger context of the desire of Stalin and Hitler to remove 10 to 20 million inferior slavs from Ukraine to the Baltic Sea and repopulate it with New Man - either Aryan race in Hitler's plans, or else the New Soviet man in Stalin's. And of course, under their control, respectively.

This great goal is also a horrific one - but in terms of world history, the proper one. It's also an essential read to grasp all the "ghosts" that haunt Eastern Europe in lots of places.

Indeed, it still haunts Eastern Europe today, as Russia dismembers (or "partitions") Ukraine.

Just finished Nietzsche's Antichrist which was a great book. You could replace the Christian with a leftist and it would still make sense.

Almost immediately afterwards I started reading Nietzsche's Beyond Good & Evil, so far been very good book.
