Reading "Two Wheels through Terror" by Glen Heggstad.
A guy motorcycling from Palm Springs to Tierra del Fuego gets kidnapped by the ELN in Colombia. After he's released he continues his trip without missing a beat. Amazing story about independence, discipline and just pure unadulterated manliness.

I just got through a third of "No More Mr Nice Guy".

I cant read this book without feeling my intelligence insulted in some way. This book wasn't written for the average dude. Hell, it wasn't meant for recovering betas either. This is like a zeta/omega male handbook for those that are utterly clueless pushovers. So much of the maxims are basic common sense, and they become annoying and repetitive to drudge through. I don't know.. Im liking 48 Laws of Power much more, although it is a mucb denser read.

^AfgScarface: The book is just very honest about what many men feel. Most guys ignore any deep-seated issues, so they paper over them and wonder why they need Viagra after 10 years of marriage. Modern society is incredibly sick and sometimes you have to rip down the false consciousness. Most people don't realize how poor their self-esteem is, so while the lessons and approaches seem needlessly basic, it is a foundation many men need. It is not a handbook for power, but a manual for living a happier, more contented life.

Picked up Pet Sematary yesterday. Read it in high school, so almost a decade ago. I remember it scaring the Bejeezus out of me, so here's to another read. Not King's best written work, but he knows how to tell a tale, so you push right through with ease.

America: Pathways to the Present

At 1000 pages, this book is a beast. I don't expect to finish it—if I do, more power to me!—but it makes for an entertaining read thus far, especially since I didn't care about history in high school.

Just got done with Fighting for the Foreign Legion, by Alex Lochrie. The scottish author, an ex-graphic designer and policeman, joined the FFL at the age of 38 after a personal crisis and served under the Parachute Regiment in Corsica.

I read the book because I was interested in the training the legionnaires go through, but there were also interesting insights into global politics and the role of the United Nations in modern conflicts (such as the Bosnian war). The book also dispels the myth that the Legion is populated with criminals and other low lifes, and presents it as a great opportunity for people who are looking to make money and see the world. The price is high, sure, but for those who don't have a lot going on, it's a good offer. Overall decent read.

Now starting The Art of Seduction, by Robert Greene.

Flight of the Eagle: A Strategic History of the United States by Conrad Black (innocent btw)

Great book for those of you interested in history. It takes an incisive look into American history, without the "AMERICA IS AWFUL" sentiment that occupies left-wing historians, or the blind "THE FOUNDERS WERE ALL GENIUSES" mythology that pervades right-wing books. Even though the book covers a lot, it is succinct, and really moves through the history with pace, which is always appreciated.

Also, its a strategic history, meaning it looks at how America established itself, rose, stayed on top, and began slipping - aka the interesting part of history, not the typical bullshit cultural or popular histories that your history teachers shoved down your throat.

Service centers around urban combat, so there's that, and it's also a bit less personalized. Luttrell at this point was a chief petty officer and sometimes did not go out on some of the missions he's describing. He talks about his teammates in a fashion a bit more removed from his immediate experience.

Still great stuff though. One of these SEALs had a white phosphorus wound and just kept on going. As Luttrell notes, 99% of everyone else would've been dead.
