Actually Spike Lee is wrong. His ancestors did at least partially choose to be stolen from Mother Africa because black Africans were selling black African tribes from the same region to the Europeans. More then likely, if you were able to trace the ancestry back to slaves, you would probably find some ancestor sold another ancestor into slavery.

That is no different than white people from European descent who probably had one ancestor rape another ancestor through pillage and conquest. Or even one Roman ancestor who sold another Swedish ancestor into slavery. Shit happens.

Unless Spike Lee is giving a cutoff for when he claims his ancestors so he doesn't have to claim the "bad" ancestors who sold his "good" ancestors into slavery, thus not giving him the oppression status he was looking for. I put "bad" and "good" in parenthesis because I believe history should be viewed as factual, not "good versus evil".

Nobody commented on HandsomeCreepyEel's post but he's right, some African slaves did go back to Africa and they treated the Africans like shit and became the ruling class of a particular country and region (Liberia I think?). So is Spike Lee going to apologize to those Liberians who got treated like shit by Spike Lee's African American ancestors?

I would like for any African American (not blacks from outside the USA) to tell me if the following is true or not: African Americans base a large part of their identity on victimhood based off slavery?

I believe that is true. I believe it does them no good either. And I believe that this identity is fostered by liberals of all colors, but mostly whites and blacks. Whites, as in ethnic Europeans, hold a lot of power in academia and the media. Therefore we, as a group, help to foster that black victimhood identity. We (whites) certainly have our fair share of blame for fostering that victimhood identity onto another racial group different than our own.

But eventually a lot of people of other races become numb to it all. At some point there's going to be nobody alive who has any connection at all to any slaves (today African American grandparents might have known grandparents who were slaves). At some point, African Americans are going to have to accept that:

1. Yes, shitty things happened to them and they had it worse than every other group in the USA except maybe Native Americans and

2. The vast vast majority of ethnic Europeans in the USA from 1776 - 1865 were piss poor farmers working their asses off in the fields because there wasn't exactly a whole lot of industry going on in the USA at the time, which means that

3. By and large whitey was to damn poor to be holding the black man down because if the season didn't produce a good harvest their family wasn't eating that winter and finally

4. At some point, African Americans are going to have to move on from the past and forge their own destiny ahead just like every other ethnic group in the USA has had to do.

I realize the point Kanye was trying to make with the 400 years slave remark. My response was in reference to Spike Lee's post, which I think shows how much being a victim plays into Spike Lee's identity and (in my opinion) a lot of other black African Americans as well.

If Kanye can make African Americans shake off their victim mentality and prosper as a community, I say more power to them. I do believe a prosperous African American community would be beneficial to all of the USA and hopefully get rid of a lot of our ghettos.

If African Americans prospering and shaking off their victim mentality helps bring them over to the MAGA side, that can only be a win for the USA, at least from what I've seen from Trump in office so far.

What's funny is that actual Africans have largely moved on from the "muh exploitation" phase and often view African Americans as spoiled children who refuse to enjoy the richest country in the world over petty racial grievances.

To be fair, there are African SJWs too, but same like in USA they consist mainly of well-off, overeducated youths who like to appear smart by subscribing to New York Times. The average person on the street, though? They don't really care.

The slavery narrative is possibly the biggest dud in the left's arsenal of historical revisionism. There's no doubt been billions spent on researching and coulouring the history of slavery in the US, but virtually nothing covering the trade elsewhere.

This academic project put together primary sources relating to Atlantic slave voyages and combined them with censuses to find out how many people actually were enslaved. If I remember correctly they estimate to have unearthed primary sources relating to the passage of 75% of slaves.

Unsurprisingly the total figure fell short the the left's previous postulations of 50-100 million. The total who were shipped to the US is barely 300,000, or about 2.5% of the Atlantic haul. And 170,000 when the US was an independent country. Yet in my previous post-Marxist indoctrination I only ever heard about slavery in connection to the US and didn't know that slavery existed anywhere else ever.

That we've virtually never been told about the other 12.2 million shipped around the Americas is as the left has nothing to gain from discussing reality, ever.

The gravy train of academic funding dries up when you want to research slavery in Africa. Through from what has been done it's been estimated that about 30% of men in West Africa were enslaved prior to European contact; and the women were essentially all salves.

From what I've read living in West Africa was hell on earth. This is from a 1699 book, Geography Anatomiz'd by Patrick Gordon,
