Odd that it's not talked about more considering it's the one thing we all have in common no matter where we come from, how much money we have, what our lifestyle is, etc. Everyone who is alive is going to die and no one really knows what happens next. Our bodies are decaying; today you are closer to death than yesterday.

At the end of the day, after you die everything will be just like it was before you were born, from your point of view. No consciousness, no nothing. I wish it wasn't so, I wish we could in some way exist forever (I know a lot of people don't), but we won't. I think the freakiest part is how time appears to go by faster and faster as you age. It really does remind you of when you were a kid and old people would say "it seems like yesterday that I was your age", but then you'd dismiss that as absurd. Not too far from today we'll all be those old people thinking "well, it was true, wasn't it...".
Truth is, anyone who loves living has got to get a little depressed about the fact that he'll be nonexistent in the not-so-distant future. Or maybe there's a certain wisdom and acceptance that will come in old age?

It has always been clear to me (even before smoking DMT) there is some sort of afterlife and so no, I am not afraid of death. I don't know how people can truly live while being afraid of death.

You clearly have not had enough experience dealing with death and dying.

Yes, some people have a lot of pain preceding their death.

But a lot of people die in their sleep, or die so suddenly that they couldn't possibly be conscious of the event.

Some people look very peaceful as they are dying, especially older people with big families. Some people look like they are in angst, like they are afraid to die - I noticed this mostly in thuggish, criminal types. I think it's a personality thing.

It sounds like you are falling for your own preconceptions.

I've had the opportunity to become rather intimate with death. I've seen people die, I've pulled people back from the brink, I've reversed clinical death, I've lost patients despite all my efforts, I've watched people recover despite me having in my mind already written them off, I've seen people drop dead suddenly, I've seen people wither away and cling to life and stubbornly refuse to die, I've seen newborn babies die, I've seen old people die, I've seen every age inbetween die, etc etc I could probably come up with more melodramatic sounding lines.

But to get to the point: Every death is unique, no two deaths seem the same, and sometimes death seems to be joyful, and sometimes death seems to be an agony, and sometimes it's a mix of stuff inbetween. Don't force your own preconceived ideas on it. Your death will be your own unique experience that will belong to you and only you.

I'm not sure if what I've written makes sense, but there you go.

Not really, not for now.. been there (once literally: clinical as a kid, too young to remember & once figuratively: ego death, remember like now, been 15 years ago) got a scar and some hippy shirts. Seems like an alien concept. So is time though. Or existence of others really.

I imagine death is a lot like being put under general anesthetic, except you never wake up from it. If you've ever been put under it, you'll know that your consciousness is basically erased for a short period of time. No dreaming, no sense of a passage of time whatsoever. You inhale some gas or take an injection and what feels like seconds later, you wake up in another room wondering what happened and then find out you may have been out for a few hours. When your consciousness is shut down you simply don't exist. It's like pulling the plug on a computer. So death can't really be called scary because you'd have to have some consciousness to experience fear. But death is simply nothingness. No joy, no pain. It's like trying to recall life when you were in your mother's womb. There's nothing, you had no consciousness.

It does trip me out to think that my self-awareness, all I've learned, all I've experienced will ultimately fade into nothingness. I hope there is something that continues on beyond, but I have no evidence of that so can't assert it as if it's a truth the way religious people do.

The only positive thing about death is that it's the ultimate equalizer. We all will end up in the same place. We may leave behind different legacies, but if our consciousness isn't around to experience that it makes no difference to us. Isn't it a travesty that some artists like Van Gogh were nobodies during their life, but only gained famed in death. What good will that actually do him?

I had a guy put a gun to my head when I was a pre teen..as in the nozzle was touching my forehead. Said if I moved or said a word my life would be gone. They took my wallet and coat and ran off. It only lasted 10 seconds but it felt forever. I can't say I was scared because it happened so quickly and out of no where. I don't even remember much but I do remember tunnel vision.

I don't think most people think about death. There aren't many scenarios where death is a likely outcome. So I can believe when people say they aren't afraid.

Even in situations where death is a 50/50 shot there's a chance that it can happen so quickly you may not have time to be scared. For those who are in a situation where death is highly possible and they have had ample time to face it? Well that's a different story.

Everyone's afraid of death on some level. As I see it, though, that isn't really what's important. The main thing is to take care of business anyway, and be ready to make it count when the time inevitably comes.

I *used to* feel vaguely scared of death.

Then I stopped doing anything in my life that I didn't want to do. And I started doing only what I wanted to do.

That led me to quit my career, leave home, go on crazy adventures around the world and to build a business.

Then about 7 months ago I fell off the top of a waterfall. As I sat frozen in the moment right before flying down for what seemed like an eternity, it dawned me that I was LIVING; that ever since my decision to follow my heart no matter the cost, I had been utterly, electrifyingly alive. And I remember thinking "if it all ends today, bring it on baby! I'm ready. I'm at peace."

I woke up in an ambulance with my lover hovering over me nervously. I hit my head a bunch, broke my nose and split open my jaw. Some crazy little waterbugs bit the fuck out of my neck and head while I lay unconscious in the shallow pool at the base of the falls. And my body was pretty fucked up for about a month. But I'm Ok now.

That day I realized I'm not scared of death and never would be again. It was the most beautiful day of my life.

I lost the fear of death and gained the power of my will.

I've looked upon death so many times now theres no new felling of fear, you might have been chilling for a while and forgot but you remember. Quick. However it is always the same ol' protocol to getting back in the zone. Which is primal.

You just reminded me of a story my dad tells me that he heard growing up in Ukraine.

An old Georgian (Georgia the country) farmer gets up every day. He gets on his horse, herds his flock, comes home, drinks red wine over dinner with his wife, smokes his pipe, goes to sleep. And every day he does it over again.

One day he gets up and tries to get on his horse. ...but he can't. So he goes out back with his shotgun and blows his brains out.

Yeah - I don't mind being dead.

It is just the process of dying I am not keen on since I hate the idea of having to be bed bound, or deal with having a stroke or heart attack. For some reason I am sure a stroke will get me in the end.

But being dead itself doesn't really bother me. In the same way that I am not bothered that a random dream I had a few years ago has ended and is completeley erased from my consciousness and memory. Death itself is literally a non-event. It is as relevent to me as the weather is on the planet Zog two million light years away.

Also - my MGTOW position was mentioned earlier in realtion to my fear of death (which I don't actually have - if you read carefully what I write).

Well - the interesting thing is this. In movies when people come face to face with death - they react by deciding to seize life and live everyday as if it were there last. Resulting in lots of glamourous adventures and travelling and so on.

But in the real world - most people react to a brush with death by learning to appreciate the simpler things in life which they once took for granted. Like seeing friends and family, having a nice sleep, sitting next to a log fire, sipping a bourbon, eating a nice meal and reading a good book. It might not look 'cool' on a beer commerical - but to me it is a pretty nice way to spend a day.

Often such brushes with death really help you to realise what is truly important in life. And who is to say that living the life which is sold to us in beer commercials is the best form of living? To me much of that shit seems boring and passe. Indeed - I have written about my attitude to such propaganda over here:

Not afraid of death so much as developing all the shit that comes with old age: arthritis, shitty eyesight, loss of muscle mass, reduced libido (?) etc. And, of course, having to use a cane or being confined to a wheelchair. I find those things worse than death itself. For that reason, I never understood why Christopher Reeve stayed alive as long as he did after his accident. I would have found a way to off myself the next day.

If I sit and deeply contemplate death, it is a bit scary. To know that a day will come where I will have no consciousness and my perception of the world will cease...until the end of time...it's a scary thought. I kind of take the Buddhist view of looking at life and death as the continuity of an infinite series. When I die the molecules in my body will break down, and eventually new molecules will form and become part of other organisms, which in turn will die and become part of other organisms etc. etc. If you look at it like that, the matter that makes up my body has been around since the beginning of time in some form, and will continue forever in some form.

But in terms of an afterlife where we are whole and the people we always were I'm pretty convinced that it doesn't exist. I can't believe in something with no evidence, it's just unacceptable to delude myself just to feel better. I think life is better lived if you face reality head on, instead of running away from it and creating elaborate fantasies.

I also use death as a motivator to get things done. Knowing that my time is limited really lights a fire under my ass to experience everything that being alive has to offer.

On a related note, I've often thought about why the hell would anyone ever want to achieve the office of POTUS considering the unhealthy toll it has to take on one's life --and it seems to me the ultimate motivation is the attainment of immortality. When I see the word death.

Hospital bills and funeral service fees comes into mind.

All I can hope for is a clean, quick death. Any for of chronic disease suffering is just bad for the wallet.

After death? Meh.. The notion of bills being passed on to my family members, that's scary.
