RE: I hate reading fiction
Wow - we are the same! My experiences detailed earlier in the thread are exactly the same.

It is strange that people consider non-fiction difficult to read or boring.

To me a novel is boring and difficult to read. I fucking love non-fiction. A good non-fiction book is like talking to a world expert on a subject you are interested in. What is not to like????

RE: I hate reading fiction
Interesting thread.

Would it be fair to say that guys who enjoy fiction would tend to be more into their "feelings" and, for example, could fall in love fairly easily?

The guys who hate fiction would tend to be more into "thinking" and be good at math/hard sciences?

RE: I hate reading fiction
As touched on in another thread (cardguy), I agree that the only thing worse than a fiction book is an Engineering book! (Perhaps off-topic but probably not worth its own thread)

Three painfully boring years of University which consisted of this crap:

Megson is my most hated author of all time.

I remember my third year of university: The big group work task where we had to design a reinforced concrete building. My best friend and I would do those fucking calculations for about six hours in his room then would get fucking BLIND drunk just to maintain some sanity.

Despite studying this crap for three years I have absolutely no idea how a building stands up or anything in a building works.

So yeah, I hate fiction, but I'd take any fiction book over an Engineering book

RE: I hate reading fiction
I can watch a good movie/tv show, shit even an average one, but I cant read fiction for the life of me. At least with a movie/tv show I can switch off my brain and just zone out for a while to watch the program. If I am reading I dont have this luxury so I need to be interested in the subject to actively engage in reading. There are many things I am interested in reading about but when the material is fiction I tend to have little to no interest in characters, plot etc... Maybe I am just reading the wrong fiction but even classic stuff like Hemingway does nothing for me.

RE: I hate reading fiction
Yeah - I pretty much don't have feelings.

The only feelings I feel are from beautiful or funny ideas.

As for engineering. I know a couple of guys who were brilliant at engineering (at Uni). And they spent all their time getting stoned after lectures. Seems the only way of switching off from the misery of the subject.

I lasted about a month before dropping out. It was great - I got to spend the rest of the year loafing around campus and having fun.

I remember walking past some former classmates as they stood outside the exam hall on my way to a squash game.
