The gist is that Pliny, and educated and urbane Roman, was shocked at how ignorant and fanatical these early "Christians" were.

True history is almost always stranger than fiction...

Always feel free to expand on your posts when it comes to these historical discussions, I'm sure I'm not the only one who enjoys learning more from the past.

+1 overdue rep point from me, also enjoyed the educational ROK posts.

Jesus is my brother.

Jesus was a brother.

I avoided the last thread for many reasons.....but, collectively, our society is becoming less able to deal with the concept of human fatality. A society so steeped in the concept of soul immortality that devolves into a society that rejects that ideal only becomes a society steeped in the concept of immortality of the present self.

RE: Was Jesus A Fabrication?
Regardless of whether or not there was an actual Jewish mystic in Judea known as Yeshua ben Yosef, the stories surrounding his life not unreliable.

I imagine it as very similar to the Trojan War or King Arthur: it is known there was a city called Troy in Asia Minor that was attacked by a coalition of Bronze Age Greeks, but that doesn't necessarily make any of the events in Homer's poetry reliable. Likewise, I can imagine the story of King Arthur having some base in reality, but that doesn't make any of the other details of the legend reliable either.

Also, the depiction of Jesus as a bearded white man with long hair is something later Christian artists completely made up (probably in the same way Chinese and Japanese depictions of Buddha all make him look East Asian even though he was Indian).

Starting at about 14:42, you can see how visual depictions of Jesus started long after his death, and the earliest images of him were of an effeminate boy with curly hair and a wand (inspired somewhat by images of Apollo, according to the video).

...Shit, I just realized this is probably going to send this discussion devolving into a race thread. Ceterum censeo Osakam esse delendam...

I can go all day on this shit but this kind of thread will get me going...

Jesus was real and according to my belief was the son of God.

Let's not start a verbal war with no end, but you asked and that's my response.

The character of Jesus is definitely not beta. He was a cult leader..

Hmmm, then why didn't he have any children and why didn't the bible mention that he took several wives? Seems a bit beta that he never got laid.

If I was a cult leader, every young & attractive female follower of mine would be servicing me...then again, Jesus did hang around prostitutes (like Mary Magdalene), so maybe they just cut that stuff out of the bible.

We know, based on textual analysis, that the authors of the gospels were not eyewitnesses. The gospels are composite texts made up of many other different documents.

The synoptic gospels (excluding John) were composed primarily of the book of Mark, plus another source called the "Q" source

you can read more about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Q_source

Now, at first glance this theory may not seem to prove or disprove the existence of Jesus, but when you go further into it, you realize there's very little chance that the gospels are reliable historical documents.

For examples, many elements of the "sermon on the mount" are found in different areas of the other synoptic gospels.

Also, the birth story of Jesus is radically different in Luke and Matthew, to the point where there is almost no way they could have both occurred. Apologists will argue against all of this, put there hands over their eyes, and pretend that none of these facts exist.

I don't doubt that Jesus was a real person at some point in history.

I also don't doubt that his existence and apparent popularity were used as a resource to be exploited to further the popularity of a competing belief system, that as all belief systems of its kind are meant to keep civilization and the masses (of beta males necessary for the flourishing of civilization) in check.

I haven't looked too deeply into the story of Jesus, but there are historical events recorded in the bible. For instance, Pontius Pilate did exist:

Of course certain elements of the bible contain places, people, and events that were real. No one is arguing against that.

Of course someone with his sexual orientation wouldn't be comfortable in church, but rather in the lab trying to prove his life choices....and a cure for his significant others "flu-like symptoms" that won't seem to go away after 3 months.

Interesting you don't believe the bible but quote wiki. How do I know he is gay? Well I don't know, just a hunch I guess. Probably don't take a rocket scientist to figure this one out.

He could have a "beard", but seems strange that he would have a wife and kids instead of being out of the closet. This isn't the 1950's, if someone wants to be gay, they don't have to hide it. Especially with a wife and kids.

Edit: And in the picture above you can see he has a wedding ring.

I am not religious, but wasn't he ( if he existed) easily one of the five most influential people in all human history? We will both be completely forgotten in 500 years, it's very doubtful Jesus will.

Doesn't that make him really Alpha, and the fact we're commenting either way about him very irrelevant?

Anyway, my theory is Jesus was a schizophrenic genius, quotes of his abstract and somewhat disorganized ideas regarding transfiguration sometimes sound like the ravings of mental patients.

But his thinking was one of the early ones that postulated that each person has value, an important foundation of liberal societies; from which every "red-pill" advocate benefits immensely even as he complains about it.

If the massive societal development of wealth--which totally depends upon the presumption of good faith in your fellows-- had never happened, you would be so exhausted and terrified of poverty and persecution that availability of beautiful women would be a very low priority for you.

There would be no "manosphere". Just the screams of slaves.
