Update on the story:

The woman, who was about 34 and driving a car with Connecticut license plates, was shot at the scene and killed.

A volley of shots were heard and led to a lockdown on Capitol Hill, which was lifted after the incident.

Initial reports said the woman had fired, but later police sources told News4 that she did not have a weapon.

The woman's child was taken to a hospital but was not hurt, reported NBC News' Luke Russert.

The shooting comes on day three of the first government shutdown in 17 years, a tense standoff between the House and the Senate over the federal budget and President Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act. Both sides have accused the other of refusing to negotiate, and tens of thousands of federal workers have been furloughed.

However, the shooter's motives remain unknown. The incident appeared to be isolated and was not related to terrorism, said U.S. Capitol Police Chief Kim Dine.

Do you not realize the deficit reduction is purely due to the Republicans? Strong-arm tactics, using the debt ceilings as leverage to force through billions in cuts, or the sequester? And for all their efforts, we're still at the $1 trillion threshold, which is lower than what the Democrats want?

Your analogy is unfit. The birth cert thing is complete nonsense. You have no credible proof for that wild allegation whereas the 2000 electoral process is a widely known and verifiable event. Where'd you come with that? Some feeling in "yer gut" hillbilly?

Anyone who understands the requirements of citizenship (many Obama haters obviously do not) know that his father's citizenship status is irrelevant since Obama was born on US soil.

Bush's legacy is so awful that he was pretty much silenced in both McCain's and Romney's presidential campaigns. He's widely considered an imbecile to where many assume he only had an Ivy League education because of his family connections. He's definitely the most inarticulate president that I've ever witnessed.

He's not even a true conservative and his decisions in office abandoned all of his party's most fundamental principles.

I read Obama's memoir which came out well before he entered politics so I have respect for his mind. The whole reason he blew up on the political scene was his superb accomplishment as a law student by being the first African-American editor-in-chief of the Harvard Law Review. Many people outside of the legal profession don't understand or appreciate how profound that is. I had an LTR with a chick that went there and knew many others who went there that were scary smart and could never imagine achieving that honor. Obama was essentially the most gifted legal thinker of his entire law school class. It was even covered in the NYT and he received an advance to publish a book about his life story. That's how groundbreaking an event it was.

Bush, of course, has no accomplishment of the sort to speak of, neither academically, personally, or professionally. He was a failure of a businessman and struggling alcoholic and mediocre student at best. No respect.

His controversy and hate on the home front was one thing, but as a widely traveled man, I can tell you the disgust people around the world had for him was immeasurable. Good riddance to that idiot.
