RE: Modafinil
Yesterday I was feeling down and depressed. I went to bed at 10 and woke up around 2. No more sleep. In the morning I took 200mg of modafinil and then man! I got a lot of work done, was well organized and felt much more alive. I'm tempted to take 100mg a day but I don't like to get dependent on yet another thing (am on TRT already).

How many of you guys are still taking this? Next time I travel abroad and can buy it over the counter I'm going to test it out.

I am currently testing it while going out, with little alchohol intake.
I fell excitement, aditional need to talk to new people, boost of confidence, focus, clear thoughts, quicker logical thinking, etc.

I will start taking it in the morning during the working day as well.

RE: Modafinil
(11-26-2017 08:51 AM)ksbms Wrote:  For the last couple months I've been feeling chronically fatigued and became excessive sleeper and caffeine wouldn't do much for me. It doesn't help I live in Scotland where there's little sun, so probably I'm experiencing a severe Seasonal Affective Disorder (and/or my symptomatic behaviour has other causes), needless to say my productivity is next to nothing and usually I work in spurts, have poor focus, and takes me hours to get to work. Very irritating.

So I've just started taking Modafinil (sold as Modafocus in 200mg tablets) not as much to get a super-boost and cognitive enhancement, but as to just get normally productive.

I'm on my third day, day one x ~ 50mg, day two ~ 50mg, day three x ~ 100mg, all in the morning. So far no noticeable side-effects. Noticeable positive effects (but perhaps (to some extent) placebo?), I don't feel tired, sleep OK, getting up is much easier, stay vigilant until late, don't feel like I need breaks as often, can work focused for many hours, don't get distracted as easily and don't feel irritated.

It seems like Modafinil might have brought my brain back online to let me engage in systematic productivity. Will update my experience in due course.

So I went to see a GP a few months ago, had blood tests done and what transpired had borderline iron. Got heavy supplementation and the results improved. Sometimes if you feel 'burnt out', 'overworked', it's good to give some tests a shot so it's not your subjective assessment of feeling good/bad before trying self-medication. I noticed that modafinil helped me first few days in terms of wakefulness but then it kind of normalised (I was taking 100mg) and it's half life means that over long time you accumulate more and more of it in your system. Once I stopped taking it I had horrible headache for over half a day. Not taking it but good to have, just in case I'd have to work very long hours, so as a boost should be useful, but on-going, daily usage probably not the best option as you'll develop tolerance sooner or later.

Alright, so it seems a big attraction of this stuff is the lack of side-effects, but I just don't buy it.

Maintaining energy levels is simply taking energy from elsewhere, that's just a law of physics. And anything that makes you happier is bound to leave you feeling depressed in time.

Can anyone testify to this?

It's not a stimulant, it doesn't give you energy.

It's more about focus. If you wake up tired and take a modafinil, it won't work.

If you wake up rested and take one, you'll get a nice focused productive day and be able to sleep that night.

I've been using modafinil for nearly 6 six years now (first Nuvigil - technically armodafinil - now simply generic moda) and continue to experience almost no side effects.

As a business owner my work cycle tends to be sprint/rest/sprint/rest (as opposed to working 8 hours/day every day), so I use it perhaps twice a week on my big work days to stay focused and kill the to-do list. I've been consistently using it since I started, although as my business has grown this last year I've taken a bit more than when I first got prescribed.

Like Malone said, it's not a stimulant and it works best when your body is otherwise at 100%. It simply gives you this unbelievable focus, whereas without it sometimes I'll find my mind wandering halfway through writing an email or reading an article. With moda I could read a textbook for six hours straight without looking up.

The ONLY consistent side effect is a *slight* headache at the end of the day, perhaps 10% of the time I take moda. And who knows if that's the moda or my work/lifestyle and simply the consequence of a manic 15-hour workday.

Some family members have tried it out on my urging and all told me the same thing. No side effects aside from lack of appetite and a small headache SOME of the time.

I'd highly recommend giving it a shot and seeing for yourself.

I've been told that headaches from nootropics can be diminished or avoided if the nootropic is taken with a choline supplement (best taken together, not after the nootropic kicks in). Eating several eggs prior to taking can also work, but with a supplement you can experiment with precise dosage.

Choline is especially a must for piracetam. Headaches that aspirin does little to reduce.

RE: Modafinil
First time I've ever used it, I took a 200MG today at around 9am, felt super focused until about 4-5pm

I didn't have that much to do today but it seems like it helps get shit done. I gave one to a friend and he had a similar feeling.

Maybe in a few days i'll try another one when I have a big day.

RE: Modafinil
Since this thread has started back up, here's my experience

Modafinil gives me headaches when I take it. I also need to take it before 7AM if I plan to go to bed before midnight, it hits me that hard.

Instead, I have switched to Adrafinil, which doesn't give me headaches and wears off a little faster so I can take it as late as 9AM. Some of that is likely because the recommended dose is 2 capsules and I only take 1.

I also supplement the dose with L-Theanine, which helps. Even by itself, it helps.

Appreciate you bringing this up. I've been using modafinil/armodafinil once or twice a month since 2013, and about 20% of the time would end the day with a slight headache. They were never that painful, but the headaches were my only negative side effect and consistent enough to keep me from using the drug more often. I always assumed it was due to a poor night's sleep the previous night, not hydrating enough, etc.

Since reading your choline tip I've had three moda days, but this time around I had an egg coffee about an hour and a half after waking and popping the moda. Zero headaches on any of the days.

Not enough data to feel definitive but a promising start. I'll update the thread again in a month or so with additional data, but I'd recommend anyone else dealing with headaches try something similar and report back as well.

The 2nd and 3rd time I took modafinil I didn't notice anything, I didn't take any pills on back to back days but when I took them I was kind of tired in the morning. Is it true what they say about it not being working if you are tired?

Yes. Not a stimulant.

RE: Modafinil
Modafinil is great since it really has no effect on your mood. It doesn't make you manic or cheerful, it simply makes you more sharp and focused. I definitely want to order some more soon.

The only nootropics that are synergistic with choline supplements are a few of the racetams, namely piracetam, aniracetam, oxiracetam, and pramiracetam. I don't think it would be necessary otherwise. But choline supplementation can be beneficial on its own, particularly CDP-Choline and Alpha-GPC.

Another thing I should mention about modafinil. It increases my focus, but it also increases my irritation at being interrupted. I find myself snapping at people who interrupt me and I'm normally a really laid back pleasant guy to deal with.

Seconded. It seems to speed up my mental faculties/processing ability, so when people stammer or talk slowly I'm more apt to get frustrated.

It also gives me more than just increased focus...it's like it amplifies my desire to get shit done. Sober IJ sometimes has to drag himself through his to-do list, but moda IJ is just SO EXCITED to be making forward progress that unexpected traffic/delays/lines/waits/etc. are even more annoying than usual.

Definitely worth it though, no doubt about it.

RE: Modafinil
Modafinil can be a great tool if you have a lot of stuff to do in a day and don’t have the energy or motivation to do it. I take half a pill in the morning with coffee and I’m extremely motivated and focused for the day. I only take it once in a while if I need to get stuff done, you don’t want to get in the habit of taking it every day. Sometimes I will get headaches from it but I think it is because I am going so hard that I forget to eat and drink as much as I should, usually I will eat something or drink some juice and it will go away. The downside is it’s hard to get modafinil easily. I got a small prescription from my doctor and the pharmacy wanted $20 per pill which is ridiculous but if you only take half now and then it is worth it. I used to order online with moafinilCat or something like that out of India but they got shut down and I haven’t been able to find anywhere since. All the alternatives I found are out of India and they don’t take credit cards. They want bitcoin only so I don’t really trust them with an order. It sucks because I was getting them for like $3 per pill and now I’m paying $20 per pill and feel like a sucker.

Tried 100mg the other day. Despite having shitty sleep the night prior I was able to focus in class all day. Appetite was about half of what it usually is and did well lifting in the gym.

Couldn't sleep for shit that night though. Modafinil has a long half-life from what I gather and I struggle with sleep anyway. Probably won't take again.

Yeah you have to be careful about taking it too late in the day, modafinil is was designed to combat narcolepsy so by design it will keep you awake. When I take it right when I wake up in the morning so that by nighttime it has mostly worn off and I sleep fine. It does have a long half life so if you take it in the afternoon you might have trouble sleeping.

I don't know where to post this but has anyone tried the nootropic NSI 189? I tried some and it gave me extreme clarity, my friend says you take a small dose every day long term, its shown to make your hippocampus grow and is an anti depressant which is very rare and not yet fully tested. Anyone had experiences?

Well it's not exactly untested, just going through testing phases https://www.neuralstem.com/pipeline/ns-189

I probably won't try it again but I am surprised this isn't a popular nootropic as people's reports on reddit are all very positive, I don't know how the hell my friend got it, I think off the dark web. For now I won't tamper with it at all though because there is not enough info on the side effects.

RE: Modafinil
So yesterday I took armodafinil at 10am, I ended up going gym and doing tons of school work till 7pm, no distraction, like a machine. The advantage of armodafinil is that the focus is gradual and subtle, whereas modafinil is like a 'high'. I normally get socially retarded on modafinil - on armodafinil this wasn't the case. I also rode my bike and felt really sharp and focused, I also hit the gym hard and broke plateaus. One big drawback is that I couldn't get to sleep till 3am, nothing would work so now I feel like shit.
