RE: Modafinil
I'd have a look at this page if you are interested in this:
http://www.gwern.net/Modafinil

It is extremely in depth, but an excellent resource.

I've linked to some of this guy's other stuff before around here, can't remember what, maybe VitaminD.

It's good information, well researched.

I'm in the UK and was told that they will NOT give Modafinil to anyone under any circumstances. Maybe I got that wrong, but I'm sure that's what my pharmacist said. He's usually a pretty good guy.

This shit gives me serious headaches... Especially if I take it 2 days in a row, the 2nd day is usually pretty bad. Maybe I need to drink more water.

RE: Modafinil
Checking in....

So, I've been on and off this for a few months. It definitely works for me. However, I worry about being addicted, if not chemically then to the effects of it. When I've run out, I've not suffered, per se, but I feel I've not been 100%. There again, I sometimes don't feel 100% whilst on it, so feel I should keep my usage in moderation to avoid building up a dependency.

Re dosage, I buy 200mg tablets and halve them. It seems the most economical way to do it. Half in the morning and sometimes half again if I've a lot to do in the evening.

I've found excellent use for it as a party drug of sorts. I can tend to burn out by about midnight, particularly if drinking hard. Pop half a tab before and half a tab midway and I'm the life and soul, even if not drinking at all Banana

The link Rigsby gave is interesting and deserves further reading from me. Particularly re how less sleep may actually be needed (would explain why 7-8 hours seems to be oversleep to me, and fucks me up) and the trials with various dosages.

For my UK brothers, be aware than when ordering from PharmancyGeoff that if you select EMS (a quicker delivery service) they write on the shipping label what's in the damn box. Not ideal. When I've had it send before on the normal airmail it's been much more discreet, brown package with just an address on. It's lucky my recent £250 worth (about a years supply) didn't get confiscated at Customs.

RE: Modafinil
I haven't noticed a difference.

First day: I took a 100MG pill
Today: I took two 100MG pills

No adverse side effects, simply not any extra energy or focus. My friend took it and felt a cerebral pressure, after a short nap he was fine; he also didn't claim there was any benefit.

I'm 18, lots of energy and focus, don't drink coffee, work out. I don't know if I have a high tolerance or what. If it makes any difference, I am in Colombia and the brand I bought was "Vigia"

Mentioned this before, but having tried Nuvigil about half a dozen times and giving some to a couple of friends, neither myself or any of them have reported feeling any effects at all.

Do you guys take it on an empty stomach?

I've found that it works best when I take it on an empty stomach or dissolve it sublingually.

If you're taking 200 mg and not feeling anything then you've been ripped off. I cut my 150 mg Nuvigil in HALF and the effect is still incredibly strong.

And modafinil is designed specifically to promote wakefulness; if your buddy was able to fall asleep, he wasn't taking modafinil. I'd recommend ditching that brand and looking elsewhere in an attempt to find the real thing.

I always take mine first thing when I wake up on an empty stomach. Never tried it with food because I prefer intermittent fasting. Haven't bothered dissolving it, but the effect with half of a solid pill has been just fine for me.

RE: Modafinil
Hey guys, just reporting back on a previous post I made.

I got diagnosed with idiopathic hypersomnia. In a nutshell: I sleep an excessive amount (brain chemicals overdoing it a bit). I got prescribed modafinil and it's been great. Instead of sleeping 9-11 hours (something 16hours!) on average, I usually do well on 7-8 hours.

From what I know, scientists aren't sure how modafinil works. But if I had to take a guess, it helps regulate brain chemicals. I also imagine if your brain chemistry works well, it might not do much to boost your alertness. Similar to being wide awake and drinking coffee (I never tried this, but I imagine the effects of caffeine aren't as pronounced).

Not sure if any of this helps, but yeah at least for me modafinil works (as it should).

RE: Modafinil
I've been using modafinil occasionally. It seems to only work when I'm tired and only works in the "background". I can stay more awake and alert but I can sense that I'm pretty tired. I forget things and am a little more scattered but I feel fine and energetic.

No big limitless feeling but it's a good tool to have in my toolbox.

Using Modavigil. (Got it from the same place as jariel).

RE: Modafinil
I am about two weeks in, 100mg/day. For starters, it makes me much more conversational, like a pipeline is open in my head, where I can talk and communicate better. Secondly, when I sit down to focus on work, it works well. I focus squarely on my work and get a lot done. I have noticed deeper levels of anxiety and now depression, but that always can come and go for me, so thats nothing new, it just may be amplified a bit more. I am better at speaking and working, on the 100mg. If I took a full 200mg dose, that may be a different story. I am debating on trying it.

I took 150 mg of Armodafonil for a week straight. Crashed hard...2-3 days of anxiety and depression.

Imo, it's something you should have in your toolbox for special days, pressing deadlines, etc. But I wouldn't take it again on a regular basis.

I've been using modafinil (Nuvigil, ~75 mg/day) once or twice a week for the past two years, and I plan on continuing to use it.

The mental focus is unbelievable. With some modafinil in my system I can easily tackle big projects over 4-6 hours without once feeling fatigued or needing an extended break. It's like pre-workout for my brain.

It also seriously diminishes my appetite, which is perfect for rest days when I extend my intermittent fasting window, or cutting phases prior to swimsuit season.

I generally become more energetic and extroverted as well. Nuvigil makes it much easier to approach (particularly during day game when I'm sober), and the increased mental acuity helps me ramble/banter.

I don't primarily use it to stay awake (I dislike that physically-exhausted-but-mentally-wired-feeling when I take it after a poor night's sleep), but it's longer-lasting than caffeine and definitely comes in handy when I'm jet-lagged, or can't afford to be tired that day. It's also great for road trips, as I no longer have to worry about nodding off while driving. And it's nice being able to alternate using modafinil and caffeine, to prevent myself from becoming too tolerant of either one.

It works and makes me feel good. Don't take more than a couple pops per week or you'll become accustomed and won't feel much.

Does anyone have experience with http://www.modafinilcat.com ?

Or, perhaps http://www.modafinilnow.net ?

Also, if anyone has experience with both Adrafinil and Modafinil can you describe the similarities and differences.

RE: Modafinil
I am qualified to speak on behalf of this med.

Pros.

Modafinil is prescribed mostly for shift workers to get them through long hours safely and awake.

It is also given to long range bomber and fighter pilots to keep them awake during extended missions... Other wise known as "go pills".

Studies have shown that it increases cognitive function when compared to placebo, generating higher exam scores for people who take it.

Many CEO's and execs take it to be on their "A" game.

Cons.

It's long term effects are unknown as it is still a new drug.
w
Some people report feeling mentally "blunted" or dysphoric with lack of motivation after abrupt discontinuation, which can last for varying periods of time.

So the facts are out, is it right for you? Everyone is different. What goes up must come down and vice versa. It can enhance cognitive function however when your done using it, how long will it take to get back to baseline is kind of the question.

RE: Modafinil
I also wanted add,

If you're really jazzed on trying a new med just talk to your MD/NP. If you can't have a frank conversation with your doc than its time to find a MD/NP you can be cool with. Don't be shy to talk about meds with you them. Thats a large part of their knowledge base. Its literally like talking about different styles of beer or different sports teams. Pharmacology is their world.

I say this because lately their has been a surge in counterfeit meds available worldwide and especially in less developed countries. These meds are cheaper and no script is needed however they might be cut with filler, colored with a nasty dye and repressed, or they could be a different but similar chemical all together. Ie, SEA viagra. Its even showing up in pharmacies abroad and a recent study showed that up to 40% of mail order meds were bunk to some degree. Don't put that crap in your body.

Get a script, call around to find the best price at the pharmacy (prices vary wildly), win the game.
