Hiding your American citizenship: when to do it?
I am a citizen of both my birth country of the USA and a Western European nation that I am “from” ethnically but have never visited. I often find myself claiming the latter nationality when pressed by girls (and guys) in South America because I have gotten good results and more positive vibes from it. It is possible, of course, that I am projecting such vibes because I’ve been subconsciously persuaded by this forum into believing that American = bad.

Roosh has written about how he prefers to be thought of “as a dirty Muslim Turk than as an American,” and has talked about the logistics of what nationality he can realistically pretend to be. Additionally, I recall a somewhat controversial ROK post by Billy Chubbs entitled “Get Laid By Becoming a Foreigner in Your Own Country” about Chubbs’ experience as a Canadian bro copping tail by pretending to be French.

I am trying to determine, out of curiosity more than any practical considerations, how pervasive this phenomenon is among [red-pill] North American men.

Do any of you American guys frequently hide or lie about your nationality? In your experience, where does it pay to hide it, and where does it pay to proclaim it? If you flaunt it, do you wear it as a badge of honor or of sacrifice?

Where the US, and New York specifically is valued I flaunt it. Where there is danger from it, I say I'm Canadian.

Example: In Belgrade, where there is some very real Anti-Americanism, I hid it. When I was in Sarajevo, a place where the US is looked at as a savior, it was one of the first things out of my mouth.

My best advice: Stay aware at all times in a place where your background will be an issue. Reveal it if it's going to present you with a clear advantage. Say nothing if you see anything less than a clear advantage.

I only hide my citizenship when security is involved. Kidnapping and beheadings tend to spoil holiday.

All the rest of the time? American

If it works for Ogre in HK, it'll work for me.

Canada is the nice-guy beta who everyone likes but no one finds sexy. The US is the arrogant asshole alpha. I'd rather be the later.

Ogre!!

Never forget his speech at the end to Van Damme...'Anytime...anyplace...I'm there for you'...memorable. Sux he got a raw deal in the fight against Chong Li (after foolishly gloating when he had him beat).

I've never hidden it. Even in countries where they're not that fond of the US, people usually are smart enough to realize that:
1) Not all Americans are alike
2) US government is not the same as the American people

More than once while traveling, people have told me I'm the coolest American they met or that their impression of the US changed in a positive way after meeting me. I'm not a flag-waving patriot, but I do understand both the strengths and the weaknesses of the US, and I take what I think is a balanced view.

At least in Brrazil the fist impression will be always bad, but not too bad. You gotta have a recovery strategy right after you say you are american. I suggest being fakely humble. People are fascinated with America due to the movies, music etc, but the american name has been throw in the garbage bin in the last years.

I don't hide it. They usually say "but you're not american (white)" or "oh but you're not fat"....

....to which I usually reply with a snarky comment about their country "Where's your sombrero? Do you eat beans every day?".

That puts them in place.

I currently live in Amman, Jordan and this is the first time that I've hidden my American citizenship. The looks in people's eyes when I tell them I'm American (even the non-Palestinian Jordanians) are pretty bad.

I'm currently Swiss. Everybody loves the Swiss.
