Whom wants to bet her Dad was around and was a strait up and solid guy. You get the vibe that she was raised well by her parents to be feminine but still professional (she has a good job at the Post ...I guess) women. Her husband has become the focus with all the rest of her "titles" coming after.

You know that's part of the problem with the US. We've gotten used to the 2 income system in order to survive. Whatever happened to the days when you could have a wife and 4 kids on one man's salary?

It's a cultural thing man. The economy balanced itself around it. Once women started working in the factories during WW2 we effectively doubled our workforce and our production. The cost of goods and services changed to compensate for the extra cashflow in the economy and we're in the situation we're in now.

If women unionized and said "No we won't work anymore. We want marriage and kids" ...The economy would compensate and men's salaries would have to double or more for the country to work properly again.

I tried to explain this to two of my liberal friends who were insisting that fast food workers deserved a $15 minimum wage. They couldn't get their heads around it.

Then I pointed out that America would be better if there were more solid families, because it is much cheaper for two adults to live in one household with kids than for two adults to live in two households and shuttle their kids between the two sets of bedrooms, from week to week.


They lost it (especially the female liberal, the male one mostly kept quiet). They thought that what I was suggesting was absurd.

I'll stand by it, though. If families were staying together, there would be less need for income and fewer people would need to work. Less need for welfare services, ergo fewer taxes, and even if we lost many jobs (40%) to China, et all, we'd be fine because we'd need fewer jobs.

The problem with America is women living the feminist dream.

The proposal itself sounded lame, but I guess it's difficult for a proposal to be cool. If it has to happen, I'd rather a pleasant woman receive a romantic proposal and have it broadcast to the world than a ball-breaking cunt.

The outrage is delicious.

But if you look at the numbers, 300 sandwiches is really not that much.

It's not like this was about learning Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking by heart and making all 524 recipes.

A sandwich generally does not take a lot of skill, time or money to prepare. All it takes is a bit of creativity, the ingredients (say, an average $10 per sandwich just to be on the safe side), and a little bit of time to shop for the ingredients, make the sandwich, serve it and clean up afterwards (say an average of 20 mins total per sandwich). So the total expense for 300 sandwiches is $3000, and the time cost is 100 hours.

If I think back about how much time and money I used to put into relationships and how I got basically nothing in return, I think the woman has gotten a pretty sweet deal for herself here.

On a related note, it seems like most (American) girls I meet now have zero cooking ability. I understand not being able to perform certain techniques, but basic cooking is easy. I really enjoy it too. I find it relaxing.
