Coast told a judge Monday that when she was caught by her mother looking at pornography on the internet, she said she had been sexually assaulted, blamed her neighbor. The lie snowballed from there, she said.

"I had no idea how far this lie would go," Coast said.

During Montgomery's case, Coast testified that he molested her in 2000 when he was 14 and she was 10. Montgomery was convicted and sentenced to more than seven years in prison, according to the Washington Post.

When Montgomery was arrested, Coast said she stuck by her lie.

"I was petrified of the police ... everyone in my life knew," she said. "I was afraid of what my family would think."

Despite a lack of evidence in the trial, the judge took Coast's word over Montgomery's and sentenced the innocent man.

"It's just too awful," Montgomery told the Associated Press after his 2012 release. "She can't take it back. She did what she did and she has to deal with the consequences."

The consequences for sending an innocent man to prison for four years include paying $90,000 in restitution along with her jail sentence.

Not only did she ruin that man's life, she made it harder for women who have really been the victims of rape to get justice

She should have to serve double the time he did because he essentially lost many years unfairly.

Rape is probably the only crime in existence for which someone (a man, naturally) can be sentenced only on the basis of a single person's word, even if there is absolutely no other evidence at all. It is the sacred cow of all crimes. Anyone knows of another crime that legally works like that, please correct me...

Assuming that picture of her is how she looked during the alleged incident the defendant fucked up royally. If it were me my defense would have been "Your Honor, I couldn't have raped her. You need to have an erection to commit such a horrible act. Just look at her."

Case dismissed.

On a serious note it pisses me off that she not only gets 2 months, but gets to serve it on the weekends. I bet this poor schmuck tried to talk his way out of it. I've said it once and I'll say it a million times NEVER TALK TO THE POLICE.

That is the epitome of fucktitude! Its things like these that boil my blood where an innocent men had his life destroyed and for years of his life spent in jail. All by the baseless accusations of that ugly landwhale!

I wonder how many times has this poor guy been rapped by the inmates in these 4 years...

To give the fat ugly bitch only 2 months in jail and during weekends is a slap in the face of not only justice but men, innocent men out there. Be very careful boys! Its a fucked up place out there! It's horrific. What bothers me more is how little most people care. Just collateral damage in our fight against this imagined "rape culture."

Hopefully someone starts a website highlighting all of these false rape cases. I can imagine there are thousands more that never make the news, not to mention tens of thousands where the guy never has his conviction overturned.

I agree, but only if you're the accused. The police WANT convictions, so always ask for representation and stick to "no comment" before it arrives. If you can't afford it, at least here in Britain, there is a "duty solicitor" for that kind of thing.

In the US, most states maintain a court record. Even if you're innocent, it shows up. I'm curious how many people bother to open the case to see the outcome.
