RE: Why is America obsessesd with being huge?
The thing is so many Americans are fat from food and look big with a shirt on. Big as in big arms, big back, etc but no muscle. Of course girls dont know and assume a big , fatguy who never works out is stronger than a small framed guy whos actually stronger but looks a lot smaller with clothes.

Do I aim to get jacked or do I look to get moderate muscle ?

You want to look athletic - meaning muscular AND lean. Jacked to me makes you look fat in clothes. But most of all, you want to be *strong*. Being stronger than the bigger guys will help your confidence a crazy lot.

Yeah I agree with that sentiment Houston - so many big-framed fat fuckers walk around like they're Arnie even though they're weak as kittens. Just today in Walmart there was a guy in cutoffs (chicken calves) with man tits and a beer belly walking around with his arms splayed out and his shoulders shrugged up like his lats and traps were huge (?!?). Pretty hilarious. I should have pointed and laughed.

Well on the other hand I do believe soup is right in saying body language is #1. Meaning that even if you are carrying some extra fat you need to "own it" and carry it with confidence.

It does seem to me that a lot of American girls dig the big and burly look, kind of like an ex football or baseball player who is now a bit out of shape. In other words looking "strong" is more important than having "abs". Am I wrong about that idea? Obviously having both is better. This preference of body shape could differ by demographic/scene/urban vs. rural I guess. In the the music/hipster crowd it seems like being thin is key.

Thats what im saying. A good chunk t of girls prefer a guy whos big off of junk food but cant do 5 pull ups versus a Bruce Lee or Henry Rollins body type. A lot of those guys who dont work out or do hard labor are weak as fuck. Just challenge them to a push up or pull up contest.

Give a consistent weightlifting program/diet a bit of time and you'll be in better shape and more impressive than the vast majority of men.

I believe its still important in Europe, and more so in the other Anglo countries (UK, AUS, NZ, CAN, SA) but just a bit less important than it is in America.

England has a huge gym culture? What Fitness First lol
North Americans are generally bigger than most people, some from muscle but mostly from fat.

Yeah I would say so (although I said large not huge). I don't mean to say that the average Englishman is in great shape, but the number of body-builders, power lifters and the number of men who lift weights consistently is high per capita and that the Anglo countries are amongst the highest with America being the first.

I'm 5'4, how much do I need to weigh so I know I have enough muscle, assuming I'll also be lean ? I need to look good in a shirt so chicks will get attracted.

RE: Why is America obsessesd with being huge?
Not necessarily height trolling (maybe?)...

I know there are all kinds of bodybuilding ratios/charts for this kind of question. For example:

http://www.t-nation.com/free_online_arti...in_awesome

Quote:One of the (very few) benefits of being a short guy is that you tend to be more successful in muscle-building endeavors. Not only are you blessed with a shorter ROM (allowing bigger weights to be used) and put muscle on faster, muscle also looks bigger on you.

Put another way, less muscle is necessary to make a shorter frame look muscular.

On the other hand, a taller guy will need to gain a significant amount more muscle, and usually achieve a greater level of development, to appear equally muscular.

I know I've seen the golden ratio, shoulders to waist, etc. discussed in other threads here...
