I knew that question was coming Pitt, in comparison to Cali, GDL doesn't have nearly as many girls with phat asses walking around, which can probably be attributed to the fact that there's basically no black heritage (not that I saw) in GDL and as far as I know in all of Mexico. That's not to say that some of the women of GDL don't have nice asses, as I mentioned before, two waitresses at Wing's Army restaurant on Chapultapec had giant asses that I'm sure you'd appreciate. They just aren't in abundance as in Cali, also there's almost no fake tits in GDL from what I say, maybe a couple of pairs in the two weeks I was there, unlike Colombia.

Anyway, I finally have a few minutes to write about my Mexico trip which ended last week, nothing too crazy but I did end up spending two days in Puerto Vallarta, so here's some intel:

Puerto Vallarta: I didn't spend enough time there to get a really good feel for the city but overall I would say that I really liked PV and would definitely return. Not sure if I'd stay there long term but I recommend PV for a short holiday. I arrived on a Tuesday evening with the intention of either going fishing or diving, I stopped by a dive shop and they said it wasn't the best time of the year to do so as it was cloudy so I decided to go fishing instead, which was great.

Fishing: I love to fish and if I'm near the water and its available, I'll do so. I wanted to go with a shop called Master Baiter's, "we won't jerk you around" but apparently the Gringo owner went broke due to chasing women and a cocaine addiction, so I went with a local shop called Vikingo's Charters (#135 Francisca Rodriguez street, cell: 044 322 189 8228). At $55/hour it was quite expensive but I had two guides and a decent size boat with all of the gear and I was the only person fishing that day. I spent four hours on the water, from 0800-noon, it was slow starting, didn't catch anything for the first two hours but then I started reeling them in and over the last two hours I caught four fish: three mahi-mahi and another one that I forget the name. Great day of fishing, they supplied coffee and beer and gave me a nice piece of about one kilo that I took to a nearby restaurant where they cooked it up for me.

After fishing I spent the afternoon chilling on the beach near my hotel, I didn't do much partying there, just had a few beers at local restaurants and pubs near my hotel, I walked by Senor Frogs at 2300 but it was dead so I just went to sleep. September is low season and it was very humid so not ideal conditions but I can really see PV filling up during the high season, although there are quite a few older retirees there and also, PV is the most gay friendly destination in Mexico.

Getting there: I took a Vallarta Plus coach style bus (very nice and comfortable, AC, movies and toilet) from GDL and it cost 350P and took about four hours to get to PV. I suggest taking the bus from the north terminal which is called Zapopan, this will save about an hour over taking a bus from the south.

Hotel: As usual, I didn't book anything but I had a rough idea of where to stay, in the Malecon area. The taxi will cost 100P from the bus terminal to just about anywhere in PV, after hitting up some hotels which the taxi suggested, I decided to just walk around and eventually found one called the Hotel Mare Luna, it cost 600P/night with AC, TV, fridge and balcony. Its in the Emiliano Zapato district and a close walk to clubs and restaurants and half a block from the beach. The manager is called Carlos and he doesn't give a shit if you party or bring girls back, he encourages it.

PV overall: Basically PV ticked off all of the boxes for me when it comes to finding a good holiday destination, this is what I look for:

-Beach: Its a beach/resort town, the beach near my hotel wasn't the best (grey sand) but good enough, decent sized waves too.

-Fishing: If I'm near the water I want to be catching fish and there's plenty of options for good fishing there, although it was a bit expensive.

-Diving: I didn't do this but there's dive shops in PV, if I return I will definitely do some diving.

-Healthy/active lifestyle: There's gyms everywhere and some of them are quite nice, there's also martial arts clubs such as karate, muay thai, etc. I saw quite a few people jogging too and walking dogs, etc.

Food: Mexican food is awesome and especially in PV there's great seafood which I love.

Partying/women: This may be PV's weak spot, compared to places like Cancun, I don't think the party scene is great in PV, but as I mentioned, I was there in the low season and I can imagine that places such as Senor Frogs are packed with horny Gringas all winter. I didn't see too much for local talent but there were definitely a few Mexican cuties working at the bars and restaurants I visited in PV. Again, I didn't party much or hit on women there, I was just relaxing for a couple of days after partying hard with THC and 20nation in GDL.

Other activites: PV is surrounded by some pretty big, green, lush hills. This is another thing I liked about the place and something I look for, I like to be able to spend the morning on the beach and then go on some kind of jungle adventure in the hills, definitely possible in PV. There's tons of "adventure tourism" activities such as dune buggies, zip lines, kayaking, horse back riding, etc to keep a guy busy during a trip to PV.

I like to hear from other forum members who've been to PV and other Mexican resort towns such as Cabo San Lucas, Cancun or Playa del Carmen and how the towns compare.

Overall, I was very impressed with Mexico, it was better than I had anticipated and is now up there with Colombia as my preferred go to destination in Latin America, I may have to spend some more time there this coming winter.

I never went there, I didn't do a lot of exploring around Jalisco beside my quick trip to PV, kind of regret it but the weather wasn't great (lots of rain in September) and it was a pretty lazy holiday overall. I checked it out on Wikipedia though and it seems like a chill spot to check out from GDL, it has the largest lake in Mexico, probably a few fish swimming around in it. There seems to be a ton of cool places like that in Mexico, I definitely have to do more research and hit some of them up if I decide to take my next winter break in Mexico.

Forgot to add that I found the name to that awesome rock bar near Chapultapec in GDL, its called Unplugged Whiky Bar, I highly recommend checking that place out, tons of talent there and great live music.

Was just in PV for a couple days last week and the place was a ghost town it seemed like. Wednesday and Thursday night Mandala and all the other clubs on the strip were empty. It was pretty crazy.

We ended up hitting up a few strip clubs which of course had some talent. A couple years back I banged a Shakira look alike stripper out of Aquas but this time I couldn't get anything to stick. The dudes I was with were older and went heavy into P4P at the clubs and had fun with some hotties.

I love PV and maybe it was just time of year and/or midweek thing. I hope at least.

Was in Cabo the weekend before and that place was going off pretty good. Not a huge fan of Cabo but did have a good time there. Daytime party is at Mango Deck on the beach which you can walk to or take a water taxi there. Pulled a flight attendant who I chilled with for a couple days and went out another night chasing a bit but my wing was terrible and energy was kinda low from partying the other days. Lots of hot Mexican girls out which I did not expect as I was expecting all Americans and Canadians.

In regards to fishing, we took a buddies 58' Hatteras from Cabo to PV and fished the islands on the way down. World class tuna fishing! I caught a 140 pounder and fought another 250 pounder for 2 hours before losing him at the boat. The biggest we landed was 280 and had 3 others over 200. Anyone that says fishing is a not a sport, try big game tuna fishing and see if it doesn't kick your fucking ass. Arms and legs burning, can barely hold a beer after because your grip strength is tapped, pretty incredible stuff!

Nice. Was in Cancun last weekend. I doubt I would do it again. I love real Mexico not Westernized Cabo/Cancun spots. If I was pulling some serious Belizean income, like 4-7K a month then I would get a condo in Cancun and use as my base. The international pussy is rediculious. Plus my flights are cheaper from Cancun instead of flying into Belize directly.

Had a chance to hit Cabo but had passport issues. Glad I didn't go though. Straight money drain. PV on the other hand was great to me. Was there in May which is the beginning of the slow season. PV should be picking up next month till May.

@qwest interesting. I think thats where the forum is heading in many ways. A few guys have their eyes on the prize, ie: a few cities they like and are slowly finding ways to lock it up or at least frequent them. Should make for interesting contributions to the forum in about 5-10 years if we're all around.

Agreed. I love trailblazing new spots and did a lot of that of that in 2013 spending 3 months in Brazil, the summer in Eastern Europe, etc. However, going back to the spots I like and work well for me is something I will do more of. On the other hand, you have to do some exploring if you want your 'mecca' which has all you need.

I have found spots that do me very well but I have some things I'm still looking for as well. Going back to the same spots has the benefits of still being 'foreign' but at the same time letting you lock it down and know how to operate.

Absolutely hate Cancun (layout, fat Americans drinking there fruity drinks with umbrellas, etc) and dont really like Cabo either, although it is way better than Cancun to me.

Cabo was pretty fun this past weekend but Puerto Vallarta was dead. I was in PV midweek though which may have had something to do with it.

Holy shit Qwest, that was a massive catch! How much do you usually pay for fishing in Mexico? I paid $200 for a half day in PV, four hours from 8am until noon, it was great fishing but a bit pricey considering I was only catching small dodos and small yellowfin tunas. Do you pay more if you're going for those big tunas?

I'm still fairly new to international sport fishing, its an addicting hobby but damn is it expensive, I spent about $200 for a full day in Colombia and only caught one dodo and four small tunas, pretty disappointing. The best fishing I've done so far was off the coast of Thailand, only $50 for a full day and we caught a big marlin, king mackeral and a bunch of snappers.

Fishing is definitely expensive as you need to pay for the guys, bait and the most expensive thing is the gas. Boats eat fuel like no other.

I paid almost nothing for this trip as the boat owner was a friend of a friend and he is super loaded. Most boats would cruise at around 8 knots to save gas, this dude didn't give a fuck and we were hauling ass at 20 knots burning 90 gallons/hour. We burned about 1000 gallons of gas total. Me and a couple buddies bought some of the booze, bait, and a little food. I think I paid $150-200 and also came home with over 100lbs of fresh sushi grade Tuna.

To catch the big fish out there, yes, you have to pay more because the fishing grounds for those fish are far away. We were about 100-120 miles northwest of PV at some islands which I wont name here for various reasons.

PM me for the only boat out of PV that goes to the big fish grounds. I think it runs about $1500 for a 3 day trip. Includes all meals and you just pay for booze. I would post the name here but I dont want to give those dudes ANY publicity as they rolled right up on our spot and go super close to us with no regard for the fish we already hooked putting a huge risk of sawing off the fish we had on.

One of the dudes I was fishing with told me he went to Prince Edward Island in Canada and once a year (I think September) you get 1000+ pound Bluefin Tuna that are only 1-3 miles off shore. Sounds pretty sick to me and I would maybe be game for that. Not sure about the cost.
