I think the core of game is self improvement. The day I no longer want to get better person: smarter, more interesting, you can stick a fork in me, I will be done. (doesn't have to be 'smarter or more interesting', for some it might be more about travelling and learning new cultures, or improve themselves physically, whatever it is for you).
