I checked on biz class. Not surprisingly there were no similar discounts. No way Id survive twenty hours plus in economy even though economy on etihad is decent (flew jfk to auh to Mle last year).

Why do the miles if credited to Aa not go to status. Becuse it's E class?

I booked one to AUH with the thought I could go to Lebanon or Isreal. For less than 200 I can afford to bail if need be

Well they're not a member of OneWorld so they're considered an 'other partner' airline. AA miles can be used on Etihad though, which I've done before. Some of the other airlines do count the Etihad flights for status, just not AA.

Awesome, I almost got in on that, I had a chance, but couldn't get all the details to work coming from the west coast and heading to SEA. Flying from/to California or AZ I would have to burn though a bunch of miles and then get at least 1 night in a hotel in NY. All that just to save a little while dealing with unnecessary travel/jet lag and it wasn't worth it.

$100+ in miles, California to JFK
$100+ one night stay near JFK
$285 JFK Airport to Manila flight deal
$100+ in miles, JFK to California

Right now there is a deal with United, LAX to Manila for $718. So I would save $133 but I would have to deal with jet lag, 10+ hours extra of being stuck on a plane, wasted days, and all the other headaches.

But nevertheless a great deal for east coasters.
