I know you're Troll but I've worked on projects for CERN and a few other high energy physics labs, the control system for the LHC is based on a bunch of VME crates running Lynx (a real time OS). They do use a few PCs running Linux to reduce costs when performance isn't critical. Windows has nothing to do with it. A lot of the physicists at those labs use Macs as their desktop computers and Mac Pros as medium weight computational servers.

^^^ The biggest thing to happen physics in the last 30 years is The Big Bang Theory, and even they make fun of Mac on the show. Physicist aren't engineers, they need a computer that produces. Physicist sit around and theorize all day. Macs are good for that cause nothing needs to actually get done.

You do all your searching through goole chrome or whatever anyway. Why do you need to be bothered with retarded antivirus popups and all that bs anyway. Anyone who claims they have no problems with windows is lying. I've been around it since it came out and been nothing but problems, this one shop I worked at had 6 computers, some shit was fucked up every day.

The users fucked the computers up. Remember, the computer can only do what the user knows. There's Chrome for Macs too, lol.

Right now you don't but will and how many in the past? I never even knew those things existed I just need to do my shit.

All I learned over the years is how to fix these fuckups and never how to use the damn thing.

My Lenovo got a virus with anti virus running and my e machine did as well with AGV running in the last two months.

Fuck this shit! I'm done

You're right Windows does have a lot of fuckups and it's harder for the average user.
However Windows 7, and most recently, Windows 8 have made it pretty User Friendly for the average person.

Windows 8 is not user friendly. People hate it. Windows 7 is just the same Windows that everyone is used to. It's more stable than previous versions for sure but that doesn't translate into more user friendly.

No different than someone ignoring the check engine light and the engine seizes up 50 miles later. Preventative maintenance is everything in the tech world. Setting a computer up correct out of the box will save hours of headaches. These are basic steps too. Not taking a stab at Emech, but most old school mechanics I know treat PC's like witchcraft. They shun diagnostics, but it is necessary when you're dealing with a truck with 4 electronic control units. These guys are getting edged out of the market by younger guys that utilize everything at their disposal to diagnose and repair more efficiently.

A Caterpillar engine control unit for a C7 engine cost $5K on the guvmint dime. I've seen a lot of those replaced, or the whole engine, because of the inability to reprogram the unit. And that cost us taxpayers a fortune.

RE: Should I switch to Mac?
Soooo basically, if someone is not well versed in computers, a Mac is the perfect machine because it's user friendly, fluid, cool looking, and also a status symbol?

Thanks guys, you sold me on the Mac.

We were meant for far more than to suffer in our self created prisons only to die alone. It doesn't have to be that way. It never did.

I'd take a Touchscreen Laptop over a Mac any day.

http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-13-3-Inch-C...B00ATANVLG

Windows 8 is better than it seems and it works perfectly with a touchscreen interface like the one above;
and with the 8.1 update coming soon, it'll only get better.

RE: Should I switch to Mac?
You can can harp on Mac all you want but the fact is that it runs a nice user interface on top of a Unix operating system. Unix has a proven track record of stability and security. Granted nothing is perfect but let me say this: Microsoft sells Windows based servers but internally they use Unix servers for their daily operations. So what does that tell you?

And if you guys are trying to stick it to Microsoft by buying Apple don't bother. Microsoft owns a big chunk of shares of Apple. Microsoft ain't going anywhere anytime soon.

This is just the age old argument of price vs quality.

You can't. You have to change the screen resolution in display.

I didn't think the words "can't" and "mac" could ever exist in the same sentence.

Its now "Disk Utility" Verify Disk...kind of the same thing.

Oh yeah, also make sure to use Time Machine with an external HD. Its a fantastic backup/recovery system, puts everything back the way it is if you ever switch computers or your hard drive crashes out.

No. Mac handles fragmentation on the fly kinda. Occasionally you may have to repair disk permissions. It's rare though.

Just get* a copy of Microsoft Office for Mac. Toast for burning DVDs. Some kinda virtualization software to run Windows for the handful of specialty windows programs you may use. Parallels or VMware workstation.

Get uTorrent or Vuze for your torrenting needs. Get XBMC for your media center needs. It plays and streams everything.

Ah yeah, I have no idea what any of that means or why I need it. What do you guys think I do here? WTF is Torrent?
