Yeah ssd and AppleCare are on there. This is from their store.

Mac users like to dock together. Like a secret handshake of sorts.

You've got your computer, I'm riding the wave of intel.

Or disintel if you count Ali's advice.

I forgot more about computers yesterday than you guys will ever know in a collective. Macs say a lot about people. When I see someone carrying one I can automatically assume:

1. Female
2. Gay (thus docking)
3. Extreme tech lack of proficiency
4. Hipster
5. Liberal
6. Democrat
7. Gun hater

I enjoy seeing someone carrying one, cause they are easy troll targets.

Ever since the iPhone, many people purchase Apple products to look rich...to impress people they don't like with stuff they don't need with money they don't have

This picture describes it perfectly. Can't afford rent but can afford a MacBook Pro.

Also, in unrelated news...there's a secret Apple society running sub-forums behind the scenes trying to destabilize the PC users.

Nobody has ever said it's not and keep their systems for years.

Apple users are like some sort of cult. A clueless one. I've never met a tech or engineer that ran one. Wonder why not?

Extreme Tech lack of proficiency....basically you're saying "not a geek".

Just saw you can but the refurbished stuff in the apple store too.

RE: Should I switch to Mac?
This thread is going to explode in a PC vs Mac war. Someone is going to have a BBL-like meltdown, probably IRT.

@Ali: Yup, an engineer can do the same thing in a PC at a fraction of the cost with better support. Now that Steve died, its stock took a dive.

@Fisto: refurbs are pretty good, they have the same warranty.

Edit A few examples of mac fails

Friend of mine asking where the "screen print" button is because he has a mac.

RE: Should I switch to Mac?
There's nothing geeky being able to maintain your own gear. That's Alpha. Mac users immediately start crying hysterically when their system breaks, and has to call the hotline, which only works when calling from an iphone. Typical Mac support call

Caller: WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!
Mac: Ah your computer stopped working didn't it?
Caller: WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!
Mac: I see, you can't get on Facebook can you?
Caller: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! WAAAAAAA!
Mac: There there now, I'll update your status and let everyone know your computer is brokey. K?
Caller: KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!! *sniffles*
Mac: Now lets see, will it turn on?
Caller: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Mac: Ok, well let's go through some troubleshoot steps. K?
Caller: What does that mean?
Mac: That's common. Well, look a the cord that goes into the wall. Is it plugged in?
Emech: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Mac: Try plugging it in and see if it works now.
Emech: YAAAAAAAAAA! I have Facebook now. I so happy! You're a genius!!

You must not know many engineers then. Almost all the ones I know have an iPhone and iPad. A good portion have macs as their home computers. The main reason you don't see more usage in the office is because a lot of engineering software packages are PC only but that's more of a reflection of Apple not targeting the corporate world than the quality of their products. Several of the physics labs I used to work in are run entirely on macs because for technical reasons. I'm not saying macs are always necessarily better, but plenty of tech people use them.

Ali, maintain your own gear? You can't even maintain a walk down some stairs without breaking your ankle.

I was referring to those that graduate from tier 1 schools in traditional disciplines like mechanical or electrical, and go on to work for major defense companies or top oil/gas entities. Not sound "engineers" from Full Sail U.

A GF's Macbook burned up at about 2.5 years.

They're not infallible.

Yeah it's a little cartoony but it's a full featured operating system. It lacks nothing and wants for nothing plus it's very stable. Sure macs are expensive if you're comparing hardware specs alone but the overall user experience is way better.

The only reason I still use windows is because of work plus I can get pirated versions of everything pretty easily. Also I fix all my own computer issues. If my computer blows up I can be back up and running in 15 minutes or less. I can honestly say I've never had any major issues with Mac where I've had to restore or reinstall anything.

I can build a tower all day long, but buy laptops pre-configured. I do all the maintenance and software. I like having something that can be upgraded over time, and worked on. Like a GM vehicle vs an Audi.

I personally wouldn't go for the SSD or the retina display unless you have unlimited funds. For $1800 with applecare, its actually not that bad of a deal, I'd usually just go with the basic macbook pro though.
