RE: 104 men arrested in New York for something totally legal in most Europe
It's women who oppose prostitution the most.
Sex is vital to life. Men are in marriages where their wives will not have sex. "Just leave" is easier said than done when leaving means paying alimony and losing the right to bond with your own child.
I don't do p4p myself but am absolutely in favor of it. It decreases the leverage women have over the men in their relationships.

RE: 104 men arrested in New York for something totally legal in most Europe
This is less about P4P and more about the deeper puritanical roots this country has. It's all part of the same culture, whether it's our strict laws on prostitution, or drinking, or drug use.
I'm going to make some sweeping generalizations that could be way off. Sometimes I feel like doing that without providing any sources or backup, but something tells me I'm right.
I'd argue that there are fewer alcoholics and drug addicts in Europe than in the U.S. I'd argue there are fewer sex issues among the genders. And I'd argue the people are happier because of it. People aren't happier in Europe because they have a more socialist government that provides free health care and welfare for the poor. People are happier because they live in a less restrictive society.
Humans are animals. We need room to breathe, pussies to fuck, and to cut loose now and then. Would you rather have a society where there's available access all the time that keeps people on an even keel (Europe). Or have a society that restricts these things, leading to a huge spike in AFCs, alcoholism, drug addicts, serial killers. Wonder why we're all so violent here? Because we're fucking miserable and frustrated. Why are we so fucking miserable and frustrated? Because you can't be a normal human here. You can't let loose and be a man.
I'm actually surprised there aren't MORE murders here. All men of all economic backgrounds need to be pacified. Every guy needs to kick his heels up, light up a stogie, a joint, enjoy a glass of whiskey, get some head, and just relax. Whatever his poison is. And he needs it on a regular basis, and he needs it WITHOUT having to jump through hoops.
When you start taking those pacifiers away from men, people are gonna die.

RE: 104 men arrested in New York for something totally legal in most Europe
A guy I know who works 90+ hours a week does this, and I think it'd be hard pressed to argue against.
On saturdays, and working on his own gig, he'll go P4P in the afternoon.
He says money is less relevant to him and far as costing, its $150, bust his nut, then back to work.
He'd say otherwise, he'd venture to a pub, spend money, maybe a meal, attempt to court a slut, have to endure her talking back some kardashian dribble, spend 3-7 hours of his time and maybe/maybe not score. Probably endure the ill-feeling of drunkenness and wake up with a brain-cell killing hangover too.
His way, drive out for an hour-90 minutes, have his way, be guaranteed what he wants, and spend 5.5 extra hours on his business.
He thinks that 5.5 hours of work on his business is worth the money.

The feminist divide on whether or not prostitution is a "sex positive" expression of female empowerment or simply the sexual exploitation of vulnerable women gives me great amusement. The fact that they can't agree on an issue as fundamental as the autonomy of their own bodies exposes the sheer bankruptcy and incoherence of their ideology. It would be like if the manosphere was caught up debating whether or not game itself was immoral. It's all the proof one needs to confirm that there truly is no "sisterhood" among women, and cannot ever be due to their innate solipsism. If a woman is a whore, she will argue in favor of prostitution. If she is more chaste, she will argue against it. Either way, the argument is never from principle, but blind self-interest.
It's why women can never enjoy camaraderie the way that men can: they are all inherently competitors in the same business, the business of attaching themselves to the best man they can find, and therefore suffer from what Schopenhauer termed odium figulium: trade jealousy. Imagine two plumbers in a small town constantly trying to steal business from each other by hook or by crook. That's how women regard each other, always and everywhere.
"For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” - Romans 8:18

RE: 104 men arrested in New York for something totally legal in most Europe
Re. info request on legal status of prostitution in Australia, the answer is that prostitution is semi-legal.
That means it is illegal to hustle on the streets but it is legal to work as a prostitute in a brothel. I am not sure if hotel visits are legal... but I presume they are.
Should men be arrested?
Depends on the argument you put forward. I don't believe there is anything morally wrong with a man paying for sex "in principle". It is two adults consenting to any activity that "arguably" does harm to neither.
In practical terms, you can never eliminate prostitution as the demand for sex is too high and not everyone can get laid. Legalised brothels take prostitution away from gangs and pimps and offer more safety to sex workers, they can be taxed and regulated, they offer a sexual release for men that might NEVER get laid otherwise.
On the other hand, the demand for prostitution (even in legalised brothels) can lead to human trafficking and human rights abuses. There have been numerous instances of women trafficked from Southeast Asia. On balance, I think it's better to keep it out of sight but legal.
What kind of men and women are in the prostitution market?
Probably two types. Those that can't get laid/trapped in sexless marriages and the big ballers. Most prostitutes in Australia would be a 3 or 4, worse than average, old, strong do not want. The big ballers are time poor but wealthy and want premium girls, they're after young 20s 8+ girls.
How does this affect the dating market in Australia?
It's hard to tell. If I was to guess, the small number of socially awkward/sex starved are taking the fugly prostitutes off the dating market but neither were really on the market representing anything of value anyway. The wealthy ballers are taking the stunners (high class escorts), but both still remain on the dating market, the ballers might be doing both regular girls and escorts while the escorts might have boyfriends on the side.
Basically it doesn't do anything.
The only way prostitution has a big impact on the dating market is in places like Southeast Asia/Sth America where you get a huge volume of cheap attractive (6+) girls and a culture where solicitation of prostitutes is normal and accepted.
That's not Australia. That wouldn't be the US either if it changed its stance.

RE: 104 men arrested in New York for something totally legal in most Europe
I'd like to present some counter-arguments against prostitution.
First, and foremost, the main historical reason why prostitution was banned was because it spread STD's like a mother fucker. Remember, there was no easy way to stop STDs from spreading back in the day, so it was MUCH easier to get rid of prostitution.
However, STD's are no longer an issue, but indeed prostitution lives with the negative stigma of being banned for centuries in many countries.
As far as modern times go:
If I were raising children, the last fucking thing I'd want them to see are some whores selling themselves to Johns on the street.
I wouldn't want that shit in my town. I'd want my kids to be unexposed to the sexual nature of humans until they were finished going through puberty, because that's what I think will be best for their long term adjustment.
I also think that prostitution might threaten the stability of marriages where the man is totally beta yet wants to get laid with strange. Without prostitution, he needs to stick with his wife, but with prostitution he might waste his cash on whores instead of spending it on his children. That said, I don't think this reason is compelling enough to ban prostitution, but there is a real possibility that it will hurt some families.
I believe prostitution should be decided upon by each town/city/state, and leave it at that.
Why NYC wants to ban prostitution is beyond me, though. God knows it's already the casual sex capital of the USA. Pretending that they are above selling themselves for sex is like a gay community banning masturbation.

This.
I expanded on these same issues in another post regarding feminism being based around relativism, where positions only have merit to the extent you can rationalize them with your own experiences/feelings.

However, you definitely summed it up more eloquently, well said.
