Man Clings To Hood Of Wife's Speeding Car Until Fatal Crash

A married couple's spat turned fatal Sunday morning when a man clung to the hood of a speeding car that his wife was driving before she plowed into another vehicle, killing him.

Police say that the Woodhaven couple, 34-year-old Matthew Soria and Maria Espinosa, 51, got into a heated argument shortly before 8 a.m. "There was a dispute over money," NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly told reporters yesterday. "The male wanted the keys to the car, the woman wouldn't give him the keys, she wanted money."

Kelly said that Espinosa then began driving the couple's car, while Soria jumped on the hood. Soria rode on the hood for seven blocks until Espinosa ran a red light on the corner of Jamaica Avenue and Crescent Street, where she smashed into another car.
“I heard a crash and ran over and saw the man,” a witness told the Post. “He was cognitive but dazed. The woman was crying. She looked confused.”
Soria died, while three other people involved in the crash were transported to Brookdale Hospital for minor injuries.
Espinosa has been charged with murder, manslaughter, and assault.
