I am partial to bomber jackets (more "plain" ones; leather or canvas look good) and ones that kinda look like these.

This will be my first time in temperatures that are constantly below 20 degrees celsius (actually, they will range between 5 and 15), and people have told me to get some kind of coat and then wear layers accordingly. While coats look nice, I don't think they really fit with my style.

Anyway, the fatigue jacket looks great. Where did you buy it from?

Looks loose through the midsection. A proper tailor can fix that. For those prices they need to fit perfect.

There's some nice dress style coats on the thread but depending where in Canada or the US you're residing in they're a bit on the thin side.

In Toronto or Vancouver you can get away with smaller dressy types of coats in the winter. However in the prairies and the northern parts of Canada, unless you were raised here and acclimatized to bitter cold, something a bit heftier makes life easier:

The average weather in Edmonton from December to February is -27*C (-16.6F). Calgary is a bit warmer. Winnipeg, Saskatoon and Regina are colder and have higher wind speeds.

Bought this, this weekend from JCrew. Its actually a lot heavier than it looks, and when its really cold here I will put a hoodie underneath it. Also have a peacoat for really cold stuff.



really torn here, I fucking love this leather jacket. I have been wanting to buy it for two years. they sell out of it every fall. the BLK DNM store is here, and I want to buy it but I am holding back spending the $1000 on it, should I do it????

I wear an H&M LOGG peacoat in black. It's getting a little faded, but I still get compliments on it. I also have the same coat in gray and got compliments on that one, too. As far as I can tell, you need to get them off ebay because they aren't sold any more.

I personally hate zippers on leather jackets. For that money you can find IMO a way better Varvatos USA one with buttons.

Just tried this one on. The girl I was with voiced concern that if I get it, her jaw might not be able to handle all the blow jobs.



Unfortunately it would be too warm for the winters here. I would only get minimal wear out of it, but that might be a good thing.

I have a loden coat, which is a traditional guy coat in Italy and Germany:

A gripe: I live in DC, and many establishments seem to crank up the heat during the winter. When I think winter dressing I think of layering, e.g. a light sweater under a sportcoat. I have a wool overcoat/light peacoat that is my standard winter coat.

The problem is, when I go inside and take off the coat, I am still too warm in my layers. I overheat easily and I hate it. But if I start peeling things off, I wind up with multiple garments to keep track of instead of just one coat to hang up. It seems much more common here for people to wear a really heavy outdoor coat and under it to dress exactly the same as they do the rest of the year. Irritates me.

I am looking at a getting a new coat or a pea coat. I was reading about it on Wikipedia, seems like peacoats are double breasted. I guess if they are single buttoned they are just coats? For those who have a wool coat, did you get a peacoat? It would be my first one, just wondering if there is any perceived value in a peacoat over just a nice wool coat. Thanks.

A single-breasted overcoat usually looks a little more formal, so works better with business or refined attire. A peacoat is a more casual, so has more versatility with both refined and rugged attire. Also, a peacoat looks really masculine.

Duffel coats, university coats, and car coats also work ok as casual or business casual coats. They usually have a little less presence than a peacoat since they aren't double-breasted.

Well I'm not sure exactly what you're prioritizing regarding function vs style, but I prefer a jacket that just zips up in front with no overlap. The reason being I don't want to have a shitload of extra fabric flopping around if I want to wear my jacket open to avoid overheating, which I often do. It has to be just about -35F or colder for me to stay zipped up even if I'm just out walking.

I have a Woolrich coat I bought back in 2009. It has held up extremely well, and it has seen a ton of wear. My only complaint is I wish the zipper had coarser teeth so it was easier to use with gloves on. Naturally Woolrich doesn't make that style, or anything particularly similar to it, anymore.

When I buy another wool jacket it will probably be a Filson Mackinaw Cruiser (Alaska fit). I doubt I will ever buy a pea coat.
