Pricing a Kindle Book
-

I am hiring ghostwriters to produce books in a niche content vertical for me. I'll be launching them sometime in the next 4-6 weeks.

Has anyone here successfully put ebooks out onto the Kindle platform? Besides Roosh obviously.

Can anyone give any advice or feedback on pricing strategies?

RE: Pricing a Kindle Book
No first hand knowledge, but I buy way more books under $5-7 than I do over. If a Kindle book is priced around $10, it has to be something I really want. I've bought so many good books for $3-7 that I now perceive that as being the normal price they should be, and anything over needs to have some extra value added to it. Especially if it's an authors first book, or if I don't know his work. I hate seeing Kindle books priced over $10. Pet peeve of mine. Not sure why. I think it pisses me off to see a Kindle book for $14, and then see a used copy of the paperback for $5.

Yeah these books won't be very long but they will be very "blueprint" style in the sense that they will be manuals/guides to hacking student loan debt based on creative strategies that different people have taken. I specifically sourced ghostwriters who used geoarbitrage to live frugally and pay off their debt.

It will probably be 4.97 or 5 bucks or something like that. I want this to be an impulse buy and then when they realize it's only 50 pages.....but 50 pages jam packed of highly practical information.....they won't refund it.

I think there are 1.5 million university graduates annually.....the US national average student loan debt is about 27,000 USD for grads.....if this is priced and marketed appropriately then there could be a real audience for this IMO. Worth a shot at least.

I imagine everyone else's opinion here will be pretty similar regarding the "5 bucks or less" pricing.

Anyone know how much of a cut/commission Amazon takes from your sales?

Anyone who has published a kindle book have some good boilerplate legalese that I can throw into the beginning of my books so that if/when someone gets hit by a car in Vietnam they don't try to sue?

RE: Pricing a Kindle Book
Haven't done that YMG but I have read some posts on what others are doing.

One, who seems to be somewhat successful, is pricing it low. Probably lower than what even Rio mentioned. They are writing fictional books in hot topics. I guess an example would be like the vampire books.

They make their money not just from selling one but creating a whole series.

From what they said, the search on Amazon really favors new books. So they need to keep cranking out new books to stay at top of the search results. The series helps them do that while also allows them to tap into existing customers. When people like one they will look at more of your books.

Like I said, I am just passing on the info I read.

YMG, how are you going to SEO the Amazon listings?

Or are you going to drive traffic a different way?

TBH, I don't really have an SEO strategy at the moment.

As soon as I had the ideas for a product that I thought would sell, I started getting them made. This has all gone down in literally the past 4 days. Now I'm starting to think about the marketing end of this.

RE: Pricing a Kindle Book
I have 2 kindle books at $4.99 and one at $2.99.

I haven't really experiment with price myself but from spending time on various kindle forums, it seems that the only way to really determine what pricing has the best profits is to simply test. For example, if your book is $4.99 and you sell 10 copies, great, you get like $2 commission for each sale. But some people find if they price it at $0.99 they'll get 100 sales. Just have to test it. I should take my own advice.

One thing you can do to basically double your profits is to go on ACX.com and hire a narrator and do a royalty split with him/her to professionally narrate your audiobook version. It costs nothing out of pocket and my audiobook sales are now outstripping my eBook sales and this is non-fiction, which is known to sell quite a bit worse than fiction.

Createspace has made me a few bucks but I haven't found it to be anywhere near as lucrative as kindle and ACX.

Make sure to get a great cover and fill out the entire description (for SEO purposes). Also do the 5 day free promo once you launch and get as many reviews as you can out of the gate, even if it means hitting up friends and family on Facebook. It makes a difference.

Good luck and hit me up if you have any questions. Smile

Thanks for the ACX.com audiobook tip, Vincent. What % split are you doing with the narrator?
