Lets talk about the gear you use to travel.

Extra weight is a burden for those who have no fixed home and roam from one place to another. The goal is to have one bag that you fit all of your belongings into that you can fit into carry on compartments. Fitting all of your gear into one bag isn't easy though and most people do two. Good topic...while the stuff you pack will be different for each individual, the backpack itself can be recommended to others.

I don't like checking in baggage anymore - less fees when flying budget airlines and you never lose your bag. Plus being extremely mobile is awesome!

I pack with TSA in mind.

I was thinking of starting a thread like this, so perfect timing. I just bought some new gear today since I'm leaving in 3 weeks for a big trip.

I'm trying to pack as lightly as possible, so I'm getting all high tech gear that doesn't smell and dries out quickly

-1 Pair of shoes which can be used for EVERYTHING - comfortable enough to walk around, but stylish enough to wear out at night.
-1 pair of vibrams for hiking/working out (?) - (I'm still debating this)

-13" MacBook Pro/charger
-1 TB external hard drive
-Sony RX100 camera (this camera is small, but takes GREAT photos for it's size).

-1 unlocked cell phone - I'll probably bring an iPhone for this trip, since I'm going to Europe, but when I go South America I'll probably get a less flashy phone.

-1 rubber door stopper. I've never used this before, but I hear it's a good idea for dangerous countries. If you put it inside your door when you're sleeping, if somebody tries breaking into your place it gives you time to escape out the window.
-Hair trimmer. I'm trying out this travels-ze Wahl groomer. I've never used it before but it seems decent. I look better with stubble on my face, so if I use this on my face instead of a razor it'll kill 3 birds with 1 stone- I'll look better with minimal effort, won't have to carry around shaving cream, and can mascape. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0025KH...UTF8&psc=1

Bag: Briggs and Riley 235x. I like the looks, the compartments are separated. I also use a Tumi shoulder bag as a day bag, but I pack that inside my B&R so its still "one bag". recently bought an eagle creek packable daypack. http://shop.eaglecreek.com/packable-daypack/d/1120 will test that out next trip maybe. more for beach locations if i wanted to take stuff with me.




Underwear: Ex-officio. I usually do 2 pairs...alternate and wash everyday while showering in the AM and they are dry by the next day.

Socks: Haven't found a decent washable solution yet. I'd ideally only like to take 2 pairs with me.

Pants: One pair of jeans. One pair of Lululemon pants that have several pockets...great for multipurpose use. Workout, casual wear, etc. Also have some super light patagonia convertible....not optimal but when I'm travelling and saving space, having that for shorts and pants and being lightweight and wrinkle resistent is pretty clutch.

Outerwear: Wear a blazer on the plane. Packable jacket in carryon.

Shirts: I'm trying to optimize my shirts...what I've found is most of my shirts I wear everyday suck for travel. I've looked at technical fabrics, I've tried out Icebreaker merino, dri fit, etc.....The best ones I've found that have been James Perse polos and t-shirts. They usually look pretty good even out of a suitcase (within reason) and are super comfortable for everyday travel wear...and they look nice too. long sleeve button ups..haeven't found a good solution. most of mine need to be pressed and ironed or they look sloppy.

Shoes: Always use Prada America's Cup in Black Leather. Most versatile and comfortable shoe I've ever had. Sometimes I'll bring New Balance Minimus Zeros or Havaiians for the beach.

Technology:

Phone
Camera- CanonS95. I have a 13MP camera in my phone but this takes great low light pics if I'm travelling.
sometimes I have to bring a laptop, macbook air but I avoid if possible.

been thinking about getting either a GoRuck GR1 Backpack...or maybe a roller....either a Rimowa topas classic flight IATA or a Briggs and Riley Widebody international carry on. The Briggs and Riley has like 2x the storage but the Rimowa looks badass and would look nice with some battle scars.
