Executive Summary: Mass shooters are stereotyped as lonely outsiders that strike back at a society that has ostracized them. Jahar is a new profile for mass shooters: The bifurcated immigrant and 9/11 truther, living two entirely different lives side by side. The article emphasizes him being popular in highschool, but he suffers the "Highschool: hero; Real Life: zero" syndrome that I'll argue leaves him the bitter, withdrawn lonely outsider stereotype of mass shooters that the article claims he doesn't fit.

Oh, and Jahar's friends called him "Jizz"

Criticisms: The article tries to excuse Jahar's part in the bombings by claiming 'he comes from a culture where, "Your big brother is not quite God, but more than a normal brother."' and put all the blame on Tamerlan, with Jahar just playing the unwilling half-wit henchman. Pretty hard to support since Jahar continued to set off bombs and shoot it out with police even after he drove his car over Tamerlan in a get-away chase.

It also tries to excuse Tamerlan and Jahar's actions as similar to 2nd generation Irish immigrants in Boston who sided with the IRA as part of establishing their immigrant identity in the US. How many Irish mass bombings were there in America in support of the IRA, exactly? Oh yeah, zero.

What's stupid is he and his brother are living in government sponsored section-8 housing, getting welfare checks to cash every month from the country they hate, with the only other source of income being his sister-in-law working as a "home health aid". But rather than, say, either of them getting a job to respond to their lack of money, their gratitude to the country that has been so generous to them and is now trying to wean two able bodied men off of government assistance and into supporting themselves financially by becoming part of the workforce ...is to go on a killing rampage? This is what triggers them? That they had to get jobs and work? That's a fucking retarded choice.

After that decision point, he starts tweeting dehumanizing statements like, "Most of you are conditioned by the media." He sets his mind that the people he will eventually attack are less-than-human, sheeple, and so okay to murder, maim and kill. Typical.

There's also no exploration of the huge hate-America crowd that surrounds Cambridge and Dartmouth that normalized and accepted Tamerlan and Jahar's hatred for America. Judging by the historical television show MadMen, there was a belief that antiamerican sentiment on campuses would end with the removal of the military draft. Instead, with no allegiance to their country required to advance in its society, this hatred seems to have only metastasized into something worse. A normal person does not react to finding out a friend has bombed a public event by cleaning his room of evidence and hiding his backpack and laptop from the police. Yet that's exactly what his dorm mates in Dartmouth's Pine Dale Hall did: Cleaned his room of evidence and disposed of it before the FBI could arrive. What a jag thing to do, assholes.
