Engineering Toy For Girls
http://readwrite.com/2013/07/12/how-an-e...TeFPhnrXtC

I have a feeling this will do absolutely nothing to inspire girls to "pursue engineering related" degrees.

It's literally going against human nature.

That being said, this girl was able to find a demand for PC technology that will make parents feel like their little princesses will actually have any incentive to pursue a STEM-related field...

What do you think of the company founder, though?

Quote:An engineer herself, Sterling was floored by the lack of options for little girls in what she calls the “pink aisle” of the toy store. There were “girl” versions of toys like Legos and Lincoln Logs, but they were little more than the same toys painted pink.

"It's not enough that girls should get access to the same toys, they need far more options available. I mean, they're going to be focused on their career when they're older anyway, so they obviously need to play as much as they can when they're young. This way we can also encourage them later in life to ignore their own kids while they become successful career women, just like our generation!"

So girls aren't going to play with "engineering toys" like Legos or Kinect unless they're pink and dolled up by a Goldilocks knockoff?

Damn forgot to add that to the OP.

WNB.

JK.

I'd bang her silly. While she solved her own toy.

I thought this thread was going to be about how to make sex toys

RE: Engineering Toy For Girls
Great example of the hamster in action. The company founder doesn't realize that by making this toy she is completely refuting the argument for it.

She says that girls need these kind of toys to get them interested in math and science so they can be engineers like men.

Yet this chick went through engineering school, and what does she end up doing? Building bridges? Designing cutting edge medical devices? Some other kind of traditionally masculine and important engineering job?

No. She's making toys for children.

RE: Engineering Toy For Girls
What is she going to engineer?

Probably some BS.

She's taken the product design skills she learned and made money which is ok in my book. Better than engineering a love seat for people with elephant ass syndrome. Better than a handheld that lets you play angry birds in the shower.

Better than a video player that lets you watch bukkake films in the spa while you spank it...wait, I've said too much.

She's pretty clever-she identified a target market-SWPL parents who accept the blank slate doctrine of feminism and all those tech HR departments who are desperate to bring in women no matter how inferior their skills in the hard disciplines may in fact be. Hell, she's already been brought in by Google, Twitter and Facebook to share her "expertise"

Meanwhile, the Chinese don't give a damn that they don't have female engineers and programmers

I see absolutely no problem with this - anything that encourages more people to get into productive STEM fields is fine by me - and this girl deserves props for breaking into the entrepreneurial route instead of slaving away at her desk for 80 hours a week.

RE: Engineering Toy For Girls
Watch the video and see how much work she put into it.

She did something most guys will never do.

If she sparks some girls to find that they love STEM then good.

In the video she states that in order to get more girls to like building she had to add a reading component, a tacit admission that girls and boys are different.

And while some here may disagree the work environment is a concern for good women going into STEM because there are some clueless omega herbs that harass women. These guys harass to try and get into beta orbiter position the way that beta orbiters harass to try and get sex. Lowest of the low, ugly, pathetic, don't even lift bro video game addict losers. Too clueless to know the girls don't even want to be friends.

These guys wouldn't listen but someone needs to tell them:

No, she doesn't want to come to your place and play world of warcraft for 12 hours straight while drinking Jolt cola and urinating into a plastic cup. Not even if you ask nicely. And no, she doesn't want to go out with you because you like manga. Yes, she is Asian but that doesn't mean she wants a guy who likes Manga. No, she hasn't seen bukkake films and if she had she wouldn't want you to be one of the guys aiming at her. Yes, the two of you have something in common, you're both in (insert particular STEM field here). That doesn't mean she wants to marry you. Advice to you: engineer a sexbot, make her look like Chun Li or Lara Croft or Kari Byron or whatever.

I worked in STEM and there are solid women who contribute and don't play the hurt feelings card or the "I didn't get promoted because I'm a woman" card. Some of them are even cordial to men.

My advice to her: If you want kids of your own, come to terms with your own hypergamy and give a good man a chance. Perhaps make a guy your husband and biz partner. And oh, BTW, the clock is ticking for you just like it is for every other woman. Nothing can change that.

Not sure if this will work, but can't hate on someone who's only had success so far.
Anything that attempts to promote STEM to American kids is positive.

RE: Engineering Toy For Girls
@Kid Strangelove: In my experience studying engineering at uni, the only women in the class were clueless(or didn't care) about "empowerment" and that kind of bullshit, they were just smart chicks that went into engineering because it's a challenging field. They don't get treated different by lecturers/tutors because they're women - probably because they don't act like entitled cunts.

Personally I'm a little unsure about encouraging mass amounts of people to enter into STEM fields, especially with the level of entitlement that permeates society. STEM subects are notorious for their difficulty, and I suspect that, rather than universities encouraging prospective students to increase their performance to enter into the fields, the prospective students will be demanding that requirements to enter go down. The repurcussions of doing such a thing should be pretty clear

One thing about Legos...those are some of the most unisex and educational "toys" you can give a child

I understand some are geared towards "action adventure" or whatever...but you can literally get sets of just pure bricks in diff. colours

Any children I have will definitely be getting them
