I liked Total War games until I discovered Paradox's stuff: Hearts of Iron 2, Victoria, EUII/III. My adolescence was misspent largely on those titles. The addiction only eased off because their newer games have tended to be suckier.

Dwarf Fortress



This is the future of the game. Learning curve is fucking intense. Right now it doesn't have graphics like this, just an old school text game.

Dude who runs it lives off his earnings from it. Dude spends all day, every day refining it. If these graphics come to fruition, game might be the best game in the world.

Colonel's Bequest



Old school murder mystery set in the South in the 1920's.

Dagger of Amon-Ra



Sequel to Colonel's Bequest. Another murder mystery set in a museum. Great because it smashes feminist ideas that second-wave feminism was the one that freed women to get valuable jobs.

Nightmare 3D



Old school game I played the shit out of. Wasn't popular but for some reason I loved it.

LA Noire



Another home run by Rockstar. Set in the 1920's, you go around solving crimes. Legit.

Quest for Glory 2



Great series by Sierra. Old school, but check out this remake by that updates the game and is playable on modern systems.

GTA: Ballad Of Gay Tony



A short one by Rockstar, but highly enjoyable. Story is cool and the missions are tough as fuck, which is awesome. Lots of killing, blowing shit up and driving fancy cars. I laughed hard when you get to rail some whore in the bathroom at the club.

ive tried a few of the total war games, the AI always seemed really bad. The civ games were a little better, but the AI didn't improve with the difficulty, it just got more bonuses to happiness and whatnot.

Super Smash Bros. for the N64 - my brother and I were literally unstoppable. I think we spent like five years on that game alone.

Other than that I played the shit out of pokemon red, blue, yellow, silver, and gold. I must have put three thousand hours between all five of them because the clocks have been maxed out on each cartridge at least twice.

Mario Kart (N64)


   


Man, I almost went to blows with my fellow Marines over this game. We got competitive and played for countless hours, and to a lesser degree Goldeneye. It got so bad a Sgt used to order us to turn it off and go cool off for awhile. Fast forward 13 years, and Marines I was working w/ in Afghan were still playing the game. Some things don't change.

Socom Navy Seals 1 and 2 really turned me on to online games

Many good 4 player split screen matches played of this game back in the day. My first FPS that really got me into competitive shooters.

Best interactive story line in a game ever for me. I lost myself playing this game.

This game really took me to a different world when I played it. The setting, characters, and story are top notch.

Dont sleep on Borderlands. The quest for loot is addicitve, the gameplay flawless and the world and characters are funny as well.

My Favorite in the FF series has to be FF3 on SNES tho. With FF7 playing a close second.

Damn, how could I leave the Fallout series out?








I grew up playing the original Nintendo and SNES, with a few good adventure games sprinkled in, then joined the military and gave up consoles save for Goldeneye and Mario Kart 64. I dropped a fat $3K in 1997 instead on a Micron 300 Pentium II, with a whopping 4 megabyte video card and 128M RAM. That was the fastest thing on the market, and I evolved into playing computer games exclusively.

Fallout was an eyeopener, and I fell in love with Mech Commander and later Starcraft. But I pretty much played every strategy game on the shelf, like AoE, Starwars: Galactic Battlegrounds, and Warcraft 2. Got burned out on those, and someone gave me an Xbox in 2003, and I made myself deal with all the extra buttons and learned to play. Halo was impressive, and is also one of the best fps series ever.

I've played just about everything for the Xbox 360 I want to, and won't consider a new console at least for a couple years. Shit my Xbox is less than 2.5 years old. This spring I will be upgrading my laptop, and plan on buying something that can play some of the online titles. Games like Eve Online and Star Wars The Old Republic are peaking my interest.

^^ I broke out Fallout 3 to replay through the day before I ended up getting my Xbox one. I got all the DLC for Fallout 3 and haven't played any of it. Soon as I finish up Dead Rising 3 I am gonna play back through Fallout 3 with all the extras.
