Just read this:

http://www.theatlantic.com/health/archiv...ts/277947/

Basically, the scientific studies are showing that vitamin and anti-oxidant supplements make more harm than good.

Personally, I took a multivitamin and mineral supplement for some time, and I didn't notice any difference at all, so gave up.

I think a very balanced and healthy diet (which I have) is all the human body needs.

What the body needs and what the body most benefits from are two different things.

The same organizations smugly suggesting vitamins and supplement have no benefit (or are harmful) are frequently also the ones pushing high carb diets and pharmaceutical drugs on the populous.

And likewise, the same statistical methodology that goes into making a sweeping statement like "supplements aren't good for you" went into the oft repeated fat apologist creed "exercise and diet don't help you lose weight, see, we have numbers, look!"

Here is a good rebuttal article

The vitamin/supplement industry is as much of a scam as the pharm industry.

That said, the article is stupid. Look at the first sentence. "Nutrition experts contend that all we need is what's typically found in a routine diet."

The average person eats less than one serving of vegetables a day. So where are people going to get their vitamins and minerals from?

Also, where are you getting your minerals? Minerals come from vegetables that are grown in mineral rich soil.

Look into top soil decline and then ask yourself how you are going to get minerals from your food when the soil has been depleted of minerals.

There are also plenty of studies demonstrating that people who take a multi-vitamin have longer telomers.

http://www.sciencenews.org/view/generic/...hromosomes

Since I juice and eat a lot of veggies, I generally only take B12 (or a b complex) and Vitamin D.

I take a multi-mineral, though.

Ideally a person should get 5-7 servings of veggies a day. But if you're not, then a vitamin pill is necessary for optimal health and will likely extend your life.

I'll grant you there is a lot of bullshit marketing and snake oil in certain parts of the supplement industry (easy to spot if you know what you're looking for), but I hardly think any comparison to big pharma is appropriate.
The supplement industry is not a unified entity with several patent-trolling multibillion dollar companies lobbying for it like pharmaceuticals.

Anyone have any theories on the best time of day to take a multi?

Morning? Lunch? Before bed?

Always take vitamins with a meal and a glass or two of water.

No I have been taking them with food. They didn't bother me after the first day, though. I still think Solaray Spectros are better, but I will give these some time.

How does one narrow it down to the best pill!?

Ok I just found these that have great reviews all over the world wide web. It also has zinc so you don't have to separately get that!
