Lupe has stated this message before in interviews, written about it in songs and had diatribes about it via social media. But for me....it never gets old.

F. Scott Fitzegerald say the sign of intelligence is the ability to hold two opposing views, and thats my take on rap music. I look it at as musical porn. Meaning that its X rated, doesn't really hold societal value outside of entertainment and should not be taking seriously. You should be able to watch porn and understand that its not a reflection of reality and also understand that to much consumption can distort your view on that subject (sex in the case of porn and common cultural events in the sense of rap). Thus if you are able to disassociate yourself from the message of a rap song and treat it as entertainment only then you won't get caught in "when keeping it real goes wrong" And by understanding its only entertainment you can also disassociate yourself from clowns who don't. Clowns that say things like "they don't really live that life", which is like holding Robert Dinero in negative light because he's not a real mafia gangster in real life.

But I also understand the effects music have on people and especially people in urban environments. So although I don't not blame rap/media for all the woes of the black community....i do however believe they pissed gasoline on the fire.

side note: Could somebody please make a gif of the dancing KKK guy....i thought that was hilarious.

Lupe Fiasco has quite the eclectic following. I know a lot of older white and hispanic friends that love his music. And his following grew after he called out Obama at the inauguration.

Mainstream rap really isn't that bad nowadays. Kendrick, Ab-Soul, Schoolboy Q, A$AP, Action Bronson, Joey Bada$$, Big K.R.I.T. are all real solid.
