He then went on to have a lengthy feud with Hulk Hogan. He might have become the greatest heel – pro wrestling parlance for a bad guy – in the sport's long history.

I wouldn't call the shiek one of the all time greatest heels. Think flair and the horsemen, ric rude, dibiase, bret hart, kurt angle. What shiek got was cheap heat but he was always more cartoonish than anything but his time was during the cartoonish days of the wwf so it was a good fit.

If the article was trying to say he could have become a great heel, he wasn't a particularly great worker despite his amateur background. And his gimmick was a cartoon. He never really was a main eventer, bob backlund refused to drop the belt to someone with no amateur background, so shiek was the transitional champion. That said, his shoot interviews were epic.

Dude, I've met a shit-load of "Iron Sheiks." He's only like a 10 percent exaggeration of an actual type of guy. Hyper-masculine Middle-Eastern dudes who aren't afraid to fight, are ultra-proud of their countries of origin, love talking about pussy, and are hilarious. You can sit around talking shit with these guys all day. The best part is that they do the whole thing with an accent.

I remember a few years ago, he was on the Killers of Comedy tour with some wack packers from the Howard Stern show and some other comedians. He ended up getting into a shouting match with Beetlejuice, which did not seem at all fake or staged. After that incident, I think Sequoia Slentz, who was the promoter of Killers of Comedy, had to kick the Iron Sheik off the tour.
