He won't be raped. His biggest problem will be that he is rich, and that opens him up to be exploited by other inmates. He has millions of dollars, gangs in prison would love to extort that money from him for things such as "protection".

Once all of his money is gone from lawsuits and the Pats taking it back, he will become just another soldier in prison for whichever gang he ends up with.

Not easy to get into a gang, especially for a wannabe tough guy like Hernandez. He isn't a real street gang member, so he is not going to have an easy time joining a gang in prison. He better hope they keep him in the "protective" wing of the prison because he is a celeb and will definitely be a target for extortion.

AH was not paid millions to put DE's on their arses. He was a hybrid/ TE/WR that the Patriots would scheme so that an OLB or Safety, or DB would have to cover and thus create a mismatch. Put Gronk on the other end, and split AH off of the line, and then by changing formations puts the Defense at a disadvantage. NE is a predominately passing football team. The NFL is now all about creating a mismatch by formation so that the Defense is always having to adjust to what you are doing. Dictating the game on your terms. NFL players are usually some freakish combination of size, strength, and most importantly SPEED!! So being in the NFL does not automatically make one able to defend themselves from a bunch of thugs trying to prison rape you. Bas tried to buy him a beer, and Urlacher started to escalate the situation. Urlacher said to Bas "you wanna take this outside?", Bas said "yes". Before it went any further, the bouncers swarmed Urlacher and explained who Bas was. Urlacher then went to Bas and apologized to him. You can You Tube it to get Bas's whole version of events. If this would have ever gone to a street fight between Bas and Urlacher, Urlacher would have been either knocked out, or submitted in under a minute. Now this is one of the greatest Linebackers in the game at the time. A real world class mix of speed, power, and size. Bas would have toyed with him. So NFL player, would get messed with in prison for sure.

Personally, I find the whole phenomenon of rape in prison disgusting. The judicial system should mete out justice, not fellow criminals.

The fact that Americans laugh at prison rape makes me chuckle when folks criticize barbaric practices such as an eye for an eye in the Middle East - like the case of a woman who suffered an acid attack being given the opportunity to pour acid on her convicted attacker in Iran. As bad as that is, arbitrary prison rape is not substantially more civilized.

The Hartford Courant has a story sure to get imaginations running. Thaddeus Singleton III, an associate of Hernandez's with whom who police wanted to talk, died early Sunday in a one-car accident. The report said the car shot through the air and hit the Farmington Country Club six feet off the ground. Hernandez is being held on a charge of first-degree murder, and police are also looking into any possible involvement the former New England Patriots tight end had in a 2012 double murder in Boston.

The Nissan Maxima in the accident involving Singleton was registered to Andres Valderrama, Hernandez's uncle. Singleton was married to Hernandez's cousin, the story said.

No matter whether this was a mere coincidental accident or not, the whole Hernandez plot is starting to seem like it came straight from "The Sopranos."

Singleton is from Bristol, where Hernandez grew up. The Hartford Courant said Massachusetts authorities have asked Bristol police for help in the investigation of the double murder.
Singleton was 33 years old. A female passenger, Tabitha Perry, was injured in the accident, the Courant said.

I've worked in some of the most secure prisons in the USA.

He is in Florida, so I don't know how primitive they are there, but these guys are closely supervised where I worked. They aren't left alone in groups with no one watching so a bunch of guys can easily gang up on someone. If someone gets killed or assaulted on your watch due to your inattention, you'll get a lot of shit and deaths cost the prison millions -- relatives sue.

In a cell with two guys in it there can be some sexual coercion, but this guy could break someone in half if he wanted to.

Someone as well known as this guy would probably be single-celled due to the unwanted attention he would get, and the negative publicity the prison would get if he is victimized.
Generally, most inmates want a cellmate as the boredom and loneliness is far beyond anything you can imagine. Remember, we;re not talking months or years, but decades.
But after 10, 20 or 25 years, as one inmate told me, "the guys start to look good."

Another reason to not to do severe felonies. Or something a feminist prosecutor who doesn't like you can twist into a severe felony.

Remember, a year from now, five years from now, twenty-five years from now you'll be doing something else, not even thinking for a minute of this fool. He'll still be in a prison cell, sitting there.

The Patriots just made an interesting PR move, and I can't recall another team ever doing something like this. They offered a jersey exchange, where you could bring your Hernandez #81 jersey to the ProShop at Gillette Stadium, hand it over for a voucher to get any replica jersey you wanted from the shop. Naturally, they removed all Hernandez items from the store. If he were simply traded, or left via free-agency, they would have marked down the items and still sold them. But the want to scrub all evidence that he existed from the organization. Hopefully, they'll do what the league does with SuperBowl losing team items that are made up - donate them in some faraway land. Something tells me they'll probably destroy the stuff instead. Ebay has been blowing up with Hernandez items though...

RVF Executive Summary:
The specific act of rape probably isn't that common, but I doubt it's a myth. Everyone that worked in Calif prisons (I worked in prisoner health care) had to take a training in recognizing and acting on reports of sexual abuse, I think they were serious and would have responded if I ever reported a complaint from a prisoner. However, it took even California a long time to come around to prisoners having basic human rights. In the 1980's there were successful lawsuits for mistreatment of prisoners with mental illness that were based on true facts verified by me from first hand reports of veteran prison workers. These lawsuits resulting in California being forced by the Feds to improve conditions to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars.

You don't have to count on anyone's good will with these things: the prisons have been and will be sued for shit like that, they don't want prisoners suiciding ( there is a major investigation after each suicide) and they don't want them raping each other. If you were a prison guard, would you want that shit going on in YOUR unit?

Over the last ten years the guards have become pretty enlightened and probably serve as the biggest rehabilitation factor for the prisoners, just because they act professional, are gruff but basically polite, and do what they're supposed to do. Of course people have bad days and pick on others.

But one of the good things about the first world is the implicit belief that just because someone else has descended to the level of an raging animal, doesn't mean you have to do it too. It's why the first world is clean and hygienic, and not obsessed with revenge-- so we aren't trapped in an economy-destroying, cousin-marrying, car-bombing 14th century replay like Afghanistan.

However, this concern about rape misses the whole point about what a horror prison would be for someone who is not a brutal animal of a hardened criminal.

Guys that are in max security prisons are there 98-99% of the time for very, very good reasons. I've looked at their arrest summaries and many have been arrested for violent crimes 10-30 times, and that's the times they're CAUGHT so actually a lot of them have victimized (raped, robbed, beaten severely, shot or stabbed-- I'm not talking about a brief bar fight where someone is knocked down and not severely hurt) dozens or HUNDREDS of people.

The dominant prisoners are so ignorant, stupid and hateful that you cannot have a friend or often even a conversation with anyone not from your race group (white, mexican, black). It is considered being a race traitor. Probably a minority of the prisoners are racists like that, but the one that are are dominant. It's the opposite of political correctness, hate and ignorance are enforced by the social environment.

If you are a basically reasonable working class or middle class person, who doesn't see fighting as a standard conflict resolution method, a max security prison environment would be a hellish horror you can't possibly imagine, not because they prisoners are abused, which they aren't in Calif, but because the prisoners themselves as an aggregate are so psychologically damaged and filled with hate, stupidity and anger that just being around them is traumatic on some weird subtle level I can't explain.

Also it's why I am amused when people complain about the California police state. People who have never been in these places and complain about a cop giving them a jaywalking ticket have no idea about the unbelievable horror cops protect them from.

Does your house smell like shit right now? Probably not.

But how much do you think about sewers and the work it took to build and maintain them? It's all hidden. And so are the tens of thousands of total, total assholes in the max security places in California.

Not all prisoners are monstrous. Most aren't on a day to day basis. But there are people who got drunk once, killed their unfaithful wife and have no other violent history, guys who got caught with kilos ( but most of them are also violent) but most are just bad news you don't want around. The reasons behind it are so criminologically complex that it can't begin to be addressed here.

This guy Hernandez, probably thought it was sort of heroic to go around intimidating and shooting people who showed a tiny hint of anything other than worship of him.

He'll try to keep thinking that as long as he can for the next 40 years or so. He'll retain some notoriety in prison, the NFL will still be around in 30 years. A big fish in a little sewer.

Form media info, he really seems like the worst kind of prisoners I dealt with, rather proud of their brutality. Many prisoners are ashamed of their murders, they had slipped into being criminals gradually, through poverty and a total lack of the opportunity this guy had.

So a totally off base thought here. I heard about the jersey exchange the Pats offered. Trade AH jersey for anyone else's. But does anyone here think that certain wannabe or true badasses(so ego tells them) are just gonna keep wearing the AH jersey, maybe more often than normal? I could see in this fucked up world, some people would think it was "cool" to keep wearing the jersey.
