Any recommendations? Don't want to spend too much, maybe $300, I could go a bit higher...was looking at the Linus Bikes..which seem kind of pricy and probably likely to get stolen pretty quick.

I live by the beach but don't really take advantage on the weekends of heading down and getting exercise, meeting people, etc.

I have a trek mountain bike...it needs some tune up...but I really want a real southern california bike...something that looks cool and more importantly is pretty good and fun for the beach. Something comfortable and low maintenance.

Any recos on what I should be looking at?

hmmm...might get a foldable bike for my car. it'd be good just to drive to the beach if there's too much traffic, park and bike for 30 minutes

Most anything from Electra Bikes

The Tiger Shark is nice paint, half-covered chain, tires fat enough you can ride on the sand next to the waves, and fenders so you don't have to eat sand spray when you do.



The Delivery cruiser has a basket built into the front, again fat tires and half-covered chain. And again guaranteed to start conversations. It even says "Not for Hire" at the pedal.



If you want the chain completely covered so you never grease a trouser leg again, lights built in, and a back rack to tie some canvas bags to for carrying things, the Amsterdam in either black or green looks best.



With a bakfiets you can just haul the girls home to your pad.

I think one of my friends has a bike like that first one. even better, there are severa Electra dealers within 5 miles of me. I want to buy the bike and then just bike home.

I checked out a few bikes today.



still looking. I am getting my mountain bike tuned up currently but after riding these in the lot, its so much more relaxing. maybe start up some beach bike game. i think I like the single speed..something that is flashy looking and has fat tires. This is only for going to the beach so I'll never be wearing pants riding.

Why buy new? For $300 you can get sweet bikes off of craigslist. I just picked up an old school rigid Cannondale for next to nothing.

I'm specifically looking for a beach cruiser and everyone selling doesn't live near me. I'm not looking for a hybrid or anything else...i already have a moutain bike. I don't want to drive to Anaheim to pick up a bike when I can just go down the street and ride one home (and pick what color and style I want to)

The bikes look cool - but the saddles will do your sex life no good. Traditional saddles result in impacts to and compression of the perineum which damages the pudenal nerves and arteries. Result over time= sexual dysfunction and ED. The only way to avoid this short of not cycling altogether is to use no nose saddle designs.

It always surprises me how most cyclists either don't even know about this problem or if the research is shown to them, they go flat out in to denial mode.

I only cycle using a no nose saddle where the pressure is taken off the perineum and placed on the sit bones where no harm to your health results. This solves the problem.

Some of the saddles above actually turn up at the nose, you simply couldn't design a worse saddle health wise. Saddles like that should carry a health warning, or better still be banned altogether.
