I'm sure I've seen a thread on this before, but this particular series of facial averages takes it a step further by zeroing in on specific universities and neighborhoods.

This stuff fascinates me. It's weird how if you take a bunch of random people and average their face, flaws and all, the result will be good looking.

Definitely makes sense.

Beauty is the flawless ideal.
Ugliness is deviation from that ideal.

Slightly bigger or smaller features, more or less spacing.

The deviation can be caused by sucky genes, or imperfect development.
Averaging all these flaws brings back the ideal.

Too bad this doesn't mean that fucking ten ugly girls makes them all hot.

Young kids have symmetrical faces.

And then depending on stress (caused by abuse, bad diet or illness) your face becomes more assymetrical as you age.

So - a pretty person tends to be somebody who had a healthy childhood (on each of the above characteristics).

Therefore - beauty is an indicator of good parenting. And serves as an honest signal for a prospective mate.

At least that is what I read somewhere. Not sure if the latest research backs it up.

Yeah, wow, there are really only maybe 12 women in all of those that I would consider really attractive. Most were actually non attractive, yet the composite faces were attractive.

I wonder if the artist took some liberty on that.

What's also a trip is that even though this may be a "facial average" of a young Peruvian women on the left:



That is not what the average Peruvian woman looks like. That facial average is probably 2 points higher in looks than the actual average woman.

Strange how there's a difference between average and facial average.
