Can we please stop using the word Anti-Western paranoia? I hate this word, it always comes up when someone questions or expresses any concern about the West. People aren't paranoid, they're concerned and worried about it and they have plenty of reasons to be.

Was this directed at me? Are you pro Islam or pro Putin? I don't really get what you're trying to say. Anyway, Putin has kept himself in power thanks to the commodities boom of the past years, namely gas and oil, not because he's doing a great job. And he does play the paranoia card, everything wrong in Russia he blames on the west. I like Putin for some reasons, but let's not pretend he's not a de facto dictator or that he's some great guy that's a great president and is doing an awesome job in Russia just because you see internet pictures praising him and it's cool to like him.

Nah, it's pretty much entirely because of immigration. With immigration crime increased and so did the need for a police state and curfews, which killed the nightlife.

Compare that to NYC: Manhattan has been the worldwide nightlife capital for almost 100 years, because it's stayed closer to it's original white culture.

I lived in LA and Southern California for 8 years. LA is a shithole because of 2 things, 3rd world people bringing over their problems and shitting out future criminal babies and throwing their mayonaise slathered corncobs on the street with the rest of their garbage and the other is the liberal policies that encourage their immigration.

I was telling thedude about a girl I met that is on vacation from her job as a chef for some princess in Saudi Arabia.

The shit she was telling THC and I was unreal and the casual way she was explaining things added to how horrifying these people really are.

She was saying servants were regularly jailed for infractions like not making food a specific way, killed for letting dirt be on a piece of lettuce and raped for letting their hair show.

White men are raped and killed their because they are white.

She is terrified to go back but thinks she has to because a company that recruited her made her sign a contract. They are actually holding her passport.

I put her in touch with a lawyer out here who knows someone in the govt.

Figured I'd work on my karmic deficit.

I agree with you that the term "Islamophobia" is a rhetorical tool to prevent any critic or doubt towards something, in this case Islam. Just as antisemitism, "israeolophobia" (recently coined in France) or anti-Western Paranoia...

I am not saying that Putin is the best leader for Russia or that he is not paranoid but I think he is much better for Russia than the oligarchs before him or than any pro-American Russian leader.

And trust me, the USA and the international banking system it supports are actively trying to fuck Russia up any way they can, i.e.: the colour revolutions in Ukraine and Georgia, the situation of Romania and Moldova, the power struggles in Syria, the Femen/pussy riots movements to destabilize Putin, the recent robbing of Russian assets in Cyprus, etc., etc.

I agree with you on NOT allowing a lot of immigration to the US, but I am a total pinko liberal-- that's why I argue against that type of too-general label. People don't fit into these super simple, one-or-two types of categories. It's more fun and productive to argue the specific issues, like immigration or gun control.

I'm a liberal on gay marriage, I own stock in astro-glide ( just kidding) but since Americans are absolutely in love with guns I don't see the point in fighting about it. You could never win and most legal gun owners are uprigth citizens and aren't going to kill me.

All the social issues seem to me to be used to obscure the bigger money/power issues.

A lot of problems have their roots in over population. Real estate becoming so expensive people center their lives around it. I remember certain periods I lived in New York when that's all people talked about at parties. California has almost doubled in population since the 1960's I believe.

But it's so big there's still a lot of places you don't see ANYONE. You could hike in the Sierras for 100 years and never go the same place twice.Calif: 242/sq mi Population density. Less than half Italy's 513/ sq mi.

So you can imagine the vast feeling of space that was here when it as only 120 / sq mi. Plus an amazingly agreeable climate if you like warm and dry.

The goal of capitalism is to reduce all human interaction to the cash nexus.

Tellin' it like it is. I've been in SoCal my whole life, and my family on my mom's side has lived here since the 40s. My grandpa set up shop in a small town north of L.A. after WWII.

I've talked with my uncles about what life was like there during the 60s. It's insane. Every weekend, high school and college kids would flood the beaches and throw massive parties. Bonfires, drinking, sex, drugs, you name it.

When I was in high school, we'd throw bonfire parties and we'd see the beach patrol buggies off in the distance and we knew party's over. After a certain point we just stopped trying and kept it to house parties, which of course would also get raided by cops.

Even more off topic: My dad moved to Santa Barbara in '69 after he got out of Vietnam. Anyone who surfs has heard of Rincon, it's one of the most famous surf spots on the west coast. He said you'd be LUCKY to go out there and see a couple other guys, that you looked forward to it so you'd have someone to talk to. This is Rincon:

I'm not quick to buy into this "everything was so much better in the past" thing. Yes in some ways things were, for certain people. Homes were more affordable here, taxes were lower, schools were better, that sort of thing. But people who looked like me never experienced this golden California. I recently watched a documentary called Whitewashed. It's about black surfers past and present. Blacks used to get jumped by whites when they went to the beach. I'm talking Venice Beach at that! This was back in the Beach Boys, Franky and Annette era. There were very specific parts of the beach that blacks could safely go and they didn't stray far from there. Much of this is now forgotten. I just say this to remind everyone that there are many perspectives and when we hear of the golden age of California, it is from a white, middle-class perspective. It was not necessarily great for anyone outside that demographic. I can at least chill on Santa Monica beach now. 60 years ago I couldn't without risk.

Places are always in flux and what made a place great 50 years ago may be entirely different from what makes a place great now. Would McQueen be able to have the lifestyle in L.A. he has now back in 1950? Doubtful. Where there all these great international restaurants here back then? Were there all these cute Korean girls to fuck? Was there the Venice Boardwalk full of hotties for Vitaly to day game? Where there as many nightlife options? People born here now will grow up thinking it's just great and wonder what all these old fogies are complaining about.

You do realize that there's always been a large Hispanic population here, right? Afterall this used to be Mexico. In fact the percentage of Mexicans now is probably similar to what it was during the city's founding. They never went anywhere. It's just that the glamorized version of socal culture in the 50s-60s only focuses on the white middle class icons like hot rods, surfers and Disneyland and pretty much ignored the black and Chicano experience here.
