The suicide epidemic

Very long read but very interesting.

For those who don't feel like reading the whole thing, we're facing a suicide epidemic in the world right now. Suicide rates are so high that it is now the leading cause of death for people 15 to 49, in the developed world, and it keeps on going up.

Causes are loneliness, feeling you're a burden to others and helplessness.

Whites suffer much higher rates of suicide than blacks or hispanics due to these two last groups having closer communities and togetherness.

I must say I am impressed, I wasn't aware that things were so dire

Good article, as someone who's old enough to have been around when there was no internet and remember in my teens my friends calling me up, and generally talking to friends daily; there has been a huge change.

My similar age peers are married or extremely busy getting rich, and younger people are locked into the internet.

Who needs ME when they have facebook?

Also a lot more people are living alone, and although cads seem to like it, I and many others don't.

I think there's a good number, but then also I think the alternative-- living alone-- is depressogenic as well.

It's kind of like the anti-male atmosphere places added stress on a man no matter which way he goes-- if he pairs up, he's a vulnerable servant; if he declines and is not an ace player, he spends too much time alone.

But as you allude to, paying your ex-wife to fuck someone else, with the full power of the state there to force you to make those payments, has GOT to be one of the most depressing things to get stuck with.

Also, unless you have real game or realize what's waiting in the Phillippines, the idea of never having a good sex life is pretty disheartening.

The reason why is obvious. People aren't having families. This makes them feel useless and the feeling gets stronger when they reach middle age.

Childless middle aged people are a useless population. It shouldn't be a shock if they kill themselves.

More and more people are isolated and lonely these days. I remember my grand parents always having friends over or spending their week ends with other friends...writing letters, discussing literature, making music together etc.

Today: you add some douche on Facebook and never hear from him again but are getting spammed with bs updates and stupid photos.

As a precentage of deaths among young people - suicide is rising.

But is this because of an increase in numbers - or just because the world is generally becoming safer (less car crashes, violent deaths, drug overdoses, health complications etc)?

The car crash thing is interesting. In the US the number of deaths on the road has dropped by about 40% since the year 2000.

I'm an agnostic, but I feel that the secularization of society and embrace of multiculturalism have played a large role in this. It has left us feeling purposeless as a people, while economic stagnation and chaos runs rampant in the world.

Feel like after 2000, our civilization has been in a slow decline.

The car crash thing is interesting. In the US the number of deaths on the road has dropped by about 40% since the year 2000.

I'd like to see some stats on this too. Things are never in isolation. But the suicide rate in Japan did rise post ww2 so there is probably some truth to the original claim regarding loneliness etc. It's probably a little bit of both, causing the numbers to "blow up".

Part of the reason suicide is so high is that guns are available (stupid I know, but a lot of people think getting shot in the head is a quick and painless death, the statistics support me on this that if guns or lethal poisons are not easily available then the suicide rate drops just because they're too pussy to kill themselves any other way) and we live in a "focused happy" culture where everybody presents a façade of boundless happiness to the world.

I am pretty sure that knowing or just believing that everyone else is happier than you are (all those fake smiles on facebook, constant relationship updates, marriages, new job, graduations, etc) can turn an insecure dude or an underperformer into a sad sack of shit.

^^^^This. We in the west suffer from "expectationitis" where we have high and unrealistic expectations of life. My Mexican buddy pointed this out. People in the west just assume that life is suppose to be always fun and never lonely. We're groomed from the start to think like this. It baits you into being a consumer that'll buy things that are advertised as being able to make you happy and fill that void in your life. If you never expected life to be grand you're not so thoroughly disappointed when reality hits.

It's funny to me when people throw a pity party for 'hard upbringings', because they'll usually referring to upbringings where people learn about the realities of life earlier than the rest. In all honesty, I think the earlier you learn 'red pill' lessons the better, it's the guys just learning these things in their 30s that are offing themselves, not my Mexican buddy who grew up with it (who's also in his mid-30s).

I've heard (and believe this to be true), that 90% of the time, suicide is about revenge.

"I'll make them regret treating me this way"
"They will feel really bad when I'm gone"
"Now they will notice me"
"She/he should have never treated me like that"

Also, suicide has been proven to be contagious. When suicide is introduced into a culture where no incidents are known previously, more people pull the trigger.

Odd to me, but I've never had the helpless feelings.

Makes sense to me when I try to analyze the school shooting epidemic.

This statistic seems insane to me! Thinking back on all the people I've known that have died, it doesn't seem representative of my experiences. Does anyone else feel that way?
