Seems to be a lot of interest in this as of late. I believe that the ruling of "Cannabis prohibition is unconstitutional" will be handed down by the Supreme Court (or by executive order) within the next decade. So I feel it is a good time to start discussing how to capitalize on this very large supply and demand market. Any and all questions and advice are welcome. I will do my best to answer or respond in a timely fashion.

Dude, I believe you're discussing this as a legitimate business in a legalized state, great idea for a thread because it seems the end of federal prohibition is on the horizon. A great do it yourself business.

How does a shop work with getting licensed and regulated? I think some places it has to be non-profit so do you just pay yourself as big a salary as you can make? Do you have to separate the growing and selling operations? Is it even legal to do both? Is one side more profitable than the other? My big concern would be a market flooded with supply that kills the price to where your percentage isn't worth it. I think the profit margin on a typical liquor store is like 3% a year, it's not that much but it's more than enough to live well.

What's the recipe for success? Being in on the ground floor? I imagine every head shop owner across the country is gearing up for this, just waiting for the laws to change and they're going to make a fortune.

You mean besides breaking it down and selling it? If your state allows medical marijuana it worth looking into cannabis cola if you have the capital for a dispensary and bottling site. http://www.drinkcannacola.com/. If this was something I was gonna do I'd open a bakery with all products laced with THC, cupcakes, ice cream, bread, etc.

I'm concerned about the supply issue as Painter is: if it's legal anyone with few grand will start selling it, Marketing and differentiation will be key. A business is a business, there's no special plan for a weed shop.

Imo, it should stay illegal. The laws are asinine but I view crime as an equalizer between men. Fuck Paris Hilton can't sing but she had CD on a major label. How? $$$$

Start-up capital/small business loans aren't easy to come-by , you can flip trees for a year, build a team and parlay that into legit business. A guy around my way did that in the '90's, last I heard he quit the drug game 2 yrs ago cuz he has a bar, laundromat, and several rental properties overseas.
