God, can't any trend come and go in peace without some fucking young filmmaker trying to jump on the band-waggon and win Sundance? I guess not.

Tattoos - I have a friend who got a few when he was young, band ones, but for some reason in the last few years, his early 30s, he has covered his arms, legs, chest, and each one he pretty much just pointed at in a book in the shop and said "that one looks cool". (I wasn't there but I assume)

They are totally fucking crap. He doesn't regret them and I don't think he will coz he just doesn't think much.

Maybe he felt he needed to play "catch up". It's pretty pointless. I can think of loads of times I considered it and am glad I didn't. All those things I believed in strongly at the time I don't now.

A tattoo should come naturally - navy, prison, thug culture, Russian mafia etc. Really, it's hipsters who have made tattoos passé.

When these little fags have got tattoos, you definitely know yours had better have reason or maybe re-consider:

I'm starting to think the people who hate on tattoos so much are just as bad as hipsters with sliced avocado tattoos on their forearms. Who are you to say who's allowed to get them or not? I doubt gang members and guys in prison care if a Starbucks employee has a Koi fish sleeve and green stars everywhere. Hipsters did a lot of damage but it's not hard to tell who has cheesy and lame shit versus someone who would of got them even if they never went mainstream.

RE: Badass tattoos
Personally I haven't gotten any tattoos, but I can get why some people might want them. For me, I've reconsidered so many ideas and beliefs in the past 5-6 years, I rather wait until I'm at least 30y old before considering anything. My rule is: if I'm getting a tattoo, I'm going to wait 5 years. If I still want it after 5 years, I'll do it. All the tattoo ideas I had 5 years ago would've failed this requirement.

RE: Badass tattoos
I really want to get a tattoo on my left shoulder that reads Strength & Honor (Cliche or what?) with an eagle seperating the two words. The reason is because my older brother has the same tattoo on his right shoulder except with a lion in the center. I don't really care if it's cliched but I think it would be a cool little bro-thing.

The little faggot downstiars got tattooed on his forearm, I'm starting to realize that mostly hoes, thugs, fags, hipsters, bikers and wannabes have tattoos. I SAY HELL NO TO TATTOO! Y'all managed to talk me out of getting tattooed, especially Germanico and Houston. Besides, I could really use the extra money for my upcoming Euro Tour.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has pretty a good taste when it comes to tattoos. On a side note; I cannot stand the hipster sleeves that 'everyone' has these days.

This is pure BS (and malevolence). To quote myself, from a recent stay in Moscow, I remarked that a wider cross section of society (not only artsy people, but also cosmopolitan and "in" upper-classe people - including well-heeled 9s + beauties) get them. In Brasil, if you stroll around on a sunny weekend on the most chic beaches like Ipanema, Leblon, Barra, ect, you will see only a handful of people without tats ...tattoo culture is big in Brasil - and the bigger the tat is, the better it is. In Paris, London, ect, I have even seen body art make its way to the Banking community.

I feel a lot of bitterness and of hatred in your words (hoes, fags). You should calm down.

Just to chill down - too much venomous and hateful anti-tattoos BS here IMO.

Ukrainian GF just sent me a pic of the new tat that she just made. Nice. As a side note, behind, it's her paintings.

I've got a couple of tattoos, clan badge and motto above my bicep. I like it and when I wear clothes that expose my arms I often get approached by both men and women curious about it. My next tattoo will be saor alba across my collar bone.

+1. I also like to expose my tats. I noticed that it's a turn-on for many women. Thinking about it, it's a good thing that so many guys don't want to have tattoos. More power to those who do have tats.

Surely this is even MORE reason not to get one! When a fucking banker has a tat and the mum next door... what's the point? It used to mean you were tough, rebelious, part of a sub-group with shared values... Now it means you are copying everyone else, a follower instead of a leader!

Having said all that, I'm quite keen to get an irezumi one day... done the old fashioned way by hand, no gun. Costs thousands of dollars, takes 5 years, painful as shit and then the idea is you cover it up and never shown anyone.

I like that idea for some reason!

RE: Badass tattoos
The most bad-ass tattoo is to not get a tattoo.

They are the most trendy thing now. Every girl get's them. Do you want to be a girl?

You can't erase them. You are potentially saying "fuck you" to you future self.

Despite what the tattoos haters here say, and even if more and more people get them, having a real nice tat is still quite exclusive. I've been out yesterday night - weather was gorgeous and there was literally thousands of people at cafes outdoor terraces - and saw noone with big art tatttoos. I wore a short-sleeves polo and believe me, got many stares from girls obviously wetting their pants.

RE: Badass tattoos
Paris. But it also comes from my experiences in EE/FSU and in Brasil (girls in Brasil are SUCKERS for guys who have nice tattoos).

But I never said that "girls love them so much"...just said that it's IMO a magnet for girls when combined with a refined and stylish dressing style, the right classy attitude, a fancy watch, ect ect. I don't really understand why people here look down their noses at guys who have tattoos infering that it's soley a hipster thing. Categorizing people is simply silly. I'm not a hipster. I am multi-faceted, and girls love that in a man. It's like when you know how to switch gears in conversation, flirting or in bed. Keeps them guessing. Being a "mystery" (the mystery being here represented by the tats associated with an obvious refinement and wealth) goes a long way with women.

IMO, the people who now say that colored sleeve tats are solely a hipster thing are the same who 10 years ago said that tats were solely a white trash thing. They just look for unfounded and partial justifications to back up their tattoo hater opinion.

To each its own, I understand that some people don't want to have tats, and I respect that because we are all different, but I don't understand all those categorizing, hateful and contemptuous assertions.

It is quite entertaining when people who claim to live a life of indifference in regards to thoughts of others put forth an argument that specifically uses the thoughts of others as the deciding factor.

+1. What is funny is that most of those so-called "non-follower" tattoo haters who don't want to "look like hipsters" are themselves often all clones with the way they dress - as one can see in the "suit/blazer game" threads.

I would feel myself much more like a try-hard follower wearing a ridiculous blazer that barelly covers the top of your butt and a pocket square (how many dozens and dozens and dozens of millions of guys are dressed exactly like that currently?) than with a sleeve tattoo.

I cringed a bit at this mate. You were super stoked to get a tattoo, but because a few people on a forum, who you've never met, didn't give you validation you are now dead set against it? You can't have wanted one that badly in the first place then it seems.

If you've never met a forum member - I'll assume you're lying

I just made a new one (not finished yet) two months ago. I'm 47 yo, successful in my professional life and a free man.

Midlife crisis? Just kidding. Just seems weird for someone older to go out and start getting tattoos.

Midlife crisis, not so much. I travel extensively and fuck a lot and get drunk like a Cossack since I'm 18 yo.
