Good. The language in the law isn't gender specific, and shouldn't be applied as if it were. This society, and the legal system is often squeamish about charging and/or punishing females the way they do males. Especially if she's cute/attractive.

Couldn't we say the same thing if she were an 18-year-old boy? People do, in fact, make that argument and it's never considered a valid excuse. By advocating that this girl get off scot-free, you're perpetuating the problem of pathologizing and criminalizing male sexuality while excusing female sexuality. It's one of the most ingrained forms of white knighting in our society.

If you (and society) want to make it okay for that girl to do what she did, you have excuse both genders.

Some traditional conservatives have argued that the normalization of homosexuality and legalization of gay marriage will ultimately lead to the erosion of age of consent laws. They may have a point - these laws will penalize gays and lesbians since its now common for young people to be completely out of the closet.

Feminists and conservatives will applaud her punishment as they both don't want men fucking 14 year old girls. She is the sacrifice that they will be able to point to in the future and say, "see, it's fair to both!!" I don't see this 14 year old as a victim of anything.

An 18-year-old charged with "rape" for being in a relationship with a 14-year-old is total bullshit and writing laws to include such ridiculous things is not going to be good for straight men, not at all. The parents are completely useless if they need to bring the police to disrupt with a 14-year-old's relationship with another teenager.

Overall America seems to be the dumbest country in the world with age of consent laws with all the stories of a boyfriend magically becoming a child rapist on his birthday when he reaches the age of maturity and his girlfriend is still a year younger and so on.

I disagree. As evidenced by the public outcry against her being charged, I think the general sentiment is she should be excused because her sexual assault is "not as bad" since it was a consensual and because she's a girl. Feminists and conservatives want to have an uneven application of the law, for different reasons (the former because they're man-haters who fear male sexuality and the latter because they're inveterate white knights).

There are plenty of cases (male-to-female) where the younger party is deemed unable to consent because of their young age. In one famous case, an 18-year-old kid got thrown in jail for banging his 17-year-old girlfriend.

Some of the comments on jizzabel were actually decent. It was the parents that had the 18 y.o. charged. And that's why the laws won't change. They don't want to admit that their daughter are whores, and the only way to fight back is through consent laws. Without them parents are helpless to watch those precious little princesses riding the carousel.

I guess not all hope is lost for this country, Florida actually has some backbone when enforcing the legal system. Just because someone is an attractive girl (their words not mine), much less an attractive lesbian girl, doesnt mean said girl is above the law. If it was an 18 year old guy they'd be all over him like white on rice. You do the crime you pay the time, simple as that. Also going a little off topic but look at her picture, notice the two tattoos? Based on what was written about Hunt's mother (notice the lack of any father figure being mentioned) it seems like she's the type of parent who lets their kid do whatever they want while still bailing the little shit out when they fuck up. Im betting if her father was in charge of the household this would have never happened.

There was a hung jury in the penalty phase of Jodi Arias' sentencing. They'll have to convene a different jury to decide if she should get death. I'm not shocked - jurors are reluctant to give a woman the ultimate punishment. Even with the brutal nature of the crime, and the willingness to convict her of it, they still flinch at the prospect of her execution. Men don't get cut that kind of slack.

Whether or not we think minors should get charged with crimes in instances of consensual sex, young males routinely get charged, convicted and jailed for this. The system can't be selective in who gets charged and who doesn't. It takes the worst to happen to the most "innocent" for there to be change. Maybe it will take this little trick getting locked up to start the push for these kinds of laws being amended in some way. But I don't feel the least bit sorry for her. It's another example of girls/women wanting to be treated equal, so here you have the downside of that equality you demand.

The laws should be equally applied. If this was a 18 y/o male, there wouldn't even be a thread about it. He'd be under the jail, labelled a sex offender, and the world would go about it's business.

Naturally this toilet of a society only now sees any harm in our fucked up age of consent and sex laws and the dilution of the word "rape" when there is an attractive white woman being harmed as a result.

How many men have been swallowed up by sex offender registry lists and the prison system without anyone noticing or giving a fuck?
As much as I don't want to see anyone harmed by the feminist's criminalization of sex, and I can't help but enjoy a little schadenfreude in this one.
